Master Volume Control

Greetings,

How about a master volume control in the game/options/audio settings? Streaming video's audio when maxed out is always lower volume than the game.

So I'm playing the game on the left monitor while watching one of Frontier's live streams on the other one. Also I often watch a "How to" YouTube video where every volume is different. For Frontier I then have to raise the audio on the live stream with my hardware while lowering it individually in the game to balance them out. Then reverse the settings when the live stream ends. Getting the individual sounds settings back in the game isn't very exact where a master volume would resolve this nicely.

You do know that Windows have volume mixer that can set individual volume to all applications?

Locate the Speaker icon in systray

right click and choose: Open Volume Mixer

Locate the desired application adjust the volume, and make desired changes. In this case Locate Elite.

Misty_Dark,

Obviously I didn't know that! :)

Running Windows 7 it works great! I'm probably a typical Windows user who after getting their speaker system working doesn't explore all the sound features. Thanks for the info!

Yeah but alt tabbing out of the game is not a very elegant solution and windows volume control doesnt work with some wireless headsets (stealth 450 for one).
Keybinds to raise or lower master volume in game would be ideal.

Hotkeys are a start. But what i'd really love would be the ability to bind analogue controls to the volume or even different volume sliders.
Somewhat related to that, it would be nice if the SRV wave scanner would get a bit louder again. I run that one at full volume, while most other effects are at 50% and below. And yet the wave scanner is what is really silent.

Ah, other issues...

Alt-Tab would be a pain for a single monitor. Using two monitors and going with the game options/graphics/display I set fullscreen borderless. Now I simply move the mouse between the monitors. Click on the second monitor with the browser and the game continues to run on the first monitor. The taskbar shows up on the game monitor providing access to Windows features like sound control and desktop access. Note there is no mouse, keyboard or HOTAS control of the game while the browser monitor is activated. Not a big deal just switch when it is safe as in cruising to a station 5 minutes away and no enemies are around or docked at a station. Click back on the game monitor and all controls are restored.

I also set options/controls/mouse controls/show mouse widget to on. This puts an orange dot in the center of the screen. VERY useful for accurate flying. Thanks to the dot I always drop out of supercruise with the entrance to the station directly in front of me. It goes away when on the browser monitor and reappears on the game monitor. Another check to see where you are at. It is called "show screen-centre dot" on the Playstation. Probably something similar on the Xbox.

I have Sennheiser PC 363D wired headphones but haven't checked them.

Most HOTAS have analog rotating rheostats which would be great for this. I have five on my Logitech X-56 grey (it works great now per the previous versions) with for me no use in ED. Although already discussed in many other threads the wave scanner volume parameters could be increased so the bar adjustment means something.

Of course the Playstation and Xbox controllers and even their HOTAS support are not into analog rheostat controls so maybe that is a problem. Then again the Frontier store sales add-ons that only work on the PC.

Hmm. Took me a little to figure out what you considered the fifth one to be. I guess you refer to the wheel on the left side of the throttle, which I use to regulate zoom on the radar. The other two on the throttle, one is my thrust override, the other one I actually use as two additional buttons. But the two on the base are the very only control elements on my X-56 which I am not using. In other flight simulators, they are used as volume control, so it's technically possible to use them like that.
.
I really wish I could do the same in ED. (Although I'd also like to be able to have one of them as volume control for windows itself. But Windows doesn't support using such a device as volume control. )
.

I'm genuinely surprised this is not a bigger topic. I can't count the mount of times I wished there was a master volume control for ED.
