I like the idea that ED is taking basically the only mode that exist in Star Citizen, and introduce it as way to have finally a decent dogfight with a real human pilot.
In pure Frontier style, it makes sense: people complain that the universe is too big, and isntead to add something to the universe, here it comes the 4x3 squares map, where a bunch of players will gather and blast each other to their heart's content. Problem solved, another lesson in requirements satisfaction nailed.
Beside that; I heard that there will be ships that will be used only in the arena, which could be debatable IMO (you spend time mastering a ship, you have to start all over, and the skill that you acquire cannot be necessarily ported in your main ship for the main game). But even looking beyond this; my doubt is about how the matching will work.
There will be different tier for the ship, based on your "level"; which is great; but are different levels going to fight each other? Same goes for weapons....a player with better weapons will be matched with a player with crappy weapons? The analogy is similar to boxing and street fighting: if I get attacked on the street, I can't count on matching my opponent, but in a regular boxe match, which has rules and such; I expect to be matched by another fighter with similar height, weight, reach and such.
Going by nose; I believe that MAYBE, there will be a match based on the skill level, which will be very loosely based on few stats. IF someone can point me to any post or official release that mention how this will work, I would really appreciate....was not able to find much to be honest.
