I started Elite Dangerous as a premium beta player and I loved it I thought easily the best game available. I couldn't wait till Elite Dangerous 1.00 was released after a longtime beta testing , and now it has, I'm gutted as, me and my friends who live on the same street by the way, all bought the game looking forward to playing online together, but thanks to frontier we can't, as every time we tried we were always on different servers. We have been trying all day with no luck. It wouldn't have been so bad if frontier said it won't allow friends to play together, don't advertise a game as multiplayer if it's Not. Private Group is useless.

I'm very annoyed I've been waiting for the release for a long time for today all for nothing.

I understand it is said to one day include wings (group jump or fleet jump) but it should have been ready for the release, that's all I am saying no disrespect intended. But there's always someone who disagrees with someone else's view. I'm a long time fan of elite 2 from back in the day

As an KS and alpha-backer I convinced alone around ~25 people to buy alpha or beta, because I liked the core of the game so much and was expecting a feature to squad up with your friends would have top priority, esp. in MMO.

How wrong I was ...

Well, FDEV postponed 'wings' (i.e., ability to form a squad in open) to an undefined point in the future. The best they could give us was that it will be released 'Soon™'.

"I want to play with my friends but in open play" ? so... you were expecting a massive shard-server system a'la eve online? I'm pretty sure we'd need to give FD a couple of million pounds a year to make that even remotely feasible :) you CAN play with your pals in the group mode, claiming you can't is just wrong. I get that you want to play with everyone, and your friends on the same instance all the time, but that isn't possible atm. you can however play with friends as others have pointed out :)

edit: And wings ARE coming soon(tm), so your dream-way of playing will happen :)

Premium Beta Backer here, also loving the game and playing a lot.

I, too, am somewhat underwhelmed by the multiplayer part. A lot of effort on part of the developers, but core multiplayer features were still broken in gamma.

Meaning, I interdict a NPC, leave a low-energy wake. My friend joins using the wake (working), but I could not see the NPC, so I could watch my friend shooting empty space. To him the NPC was there.

It's sad because it took so much time and money, but it doesn't give anything back to the game.

I play in a region near the federation/empire border. I have not seen another commander for days.

Listen we try to friend each other, great. Then we tried to talk with no luck, then we tried to meet each other again with no luck.

We don't like private group it's useless.

I'm also disappointed about not being able to join a friend, more specifically my dad, I was 7 when I used to watch my dad play elite, we both loved it in 1984, we both bought into the first beta of elite: dangerous, the thought of playing Elite along side each other thrilled us, we've being saying to each other "don't worry they will sort it out" and we still remain hopeful.

If this is not the case and Frontier already know that this will never happen, it would be nice if they could just come out and say it.

This is not a post, and its also not a game breaker for me or my dad as we are both still having a blast we love the game, but could someone put me out of my misery either way?

There was a thread regarding setting up manual ports and forwarding them on your router. Think it was started by brumster. Those guys got it working and were convinced it was a good fix.

Can't link cos I'm on my phone but you should do a search.

It might only be relevant to BT home hub kit though

Step one:

All load the game in open or private group.

Step two:

Even if you don't see each other, super cruise or hyper-jump to the same location.

Hey presto you should all be in the same instance (make sure you're all on each others friends list).

As far as I know when you load the game you start in your own instance so that your ship doesn't spawn on the same landing pad as someone else's and explode. You can get into the same instance by jumping somewhere else together.

I postet in severall threads about that, cause we have the same problem we cannot rly play together.
But all players like "OMG Thank you Frontier Elite is so great"
I ve talked 4 People into this game, and now ?...

And we all play like singleplayer , how can u tolerate this ?

I can find the following thread, it maybe the one you are on about..

Explains briefly how to edit the AppConfig.xml file to disable uPnP and set your own port.
You can then set your router up to port forward whatever port you decide on.. obviously instructions to do that depend on your routers.


AppConfig.xml can be found here:
C:\Users\<yourUserName>\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002


Default it is:

      upnpenabled="1"
      LogFile="netLog"
      DatestampLog="1"
      >



Editing it to look like:

Code: 
    <Network
      Port="19364"
      upnpenabled="0"
      LogFile="netLog"
      DatestampLog="1"
      >

Port 19364 being the default, which you then setup to forward via your router.

A private group doesn't mean it's just you!!!!! It means matchmaking will group you together.... There will still be plenty of other commanders for you to play with.


Oh and by the way.......grow up
