Engineers Material limit

Just in case FDev missed it, and since they are talking about improving core game play:

Who would be in favor of changing the way the material/data capacity works so that instead of having a 1000 and 500 unit limit; have the limit for each individual material set to 15 or 20 say.

Anyone like/got any other ideas?

Material management feels so very very awkward at this stage.

Edit* Perhaps you would prefer the limit was removed entirely?

I do that myself manually when I get data full or materials full I through the list and dump everything into space bring it all down to 25 except the common stuff which I drop down to 20 and if it's got the grade 5 I keep it regardless so I'd be in favour of having a 25 cap on everything and while there at it get rid of the cargo rewards on missions they are no longer needed apart from Marco Quin stuff which they could easily sell somewhere

I would not like an individual limit AT ALL. There are so many items I don't even need anymore that they get trashed in favor of keeping lots of the higher end mats. If I had to limit my space to those higher mats to 15 or 20 that would suck. I like to do bulk engineer mod attempts and I'd not be happy if I was limited to that few tries.

Having a limit of 15 - 20 also creates a problem for anyone who wants to stock up on FSD boosted jumps, and other synthesis recipes. It's probably not going to be a good solution.

There should be no limit at all.

I agree but I doubt that FDev want to go that route. I think they want to have a game-play loop of gathering, but I would much prefer if there was no limit or a very least a very large limit.

There should be NO LIMITS, further more,
we should have the ability to STORE at any Engineer base.
OR
Store at any Base, with the same Transport system used for Modules.
Where at any time we can send various Mats to a Engineer Base.

I'd be ok with the current limit, but the ability to exchange mats and data at some engineer contact. I recall some discussion on that some time back.

There have to be limits. It's a computer, it uses memory, somewhere. Though even a byte for each would be 255 each material. That should be enough for anybody.

There have been a few CGs requesting mats and data. If the screenshots of 2.4 can be trusted, the contacts that accepted mats and data will be a regular feature in some stations. It's not a huge leap of assumption to imagine that these contacts will give us other mats and data in exchange for what we give them.

I'd rather see a reduction in the variety of materials. There are so many I don't even think twice about but over the course of collecting other materials I always have them in abundance.

The awkwardness of material management, I think, is primarily caused by the overwhelming variety.

I 100% disagree with you on this. We need more variety in the game, not less. So what if many of these materials are useless. It's the arbitrary limit of 1000 mats that causes the problem, not the variety.

As much as I'd love it, everyone needs to remember FD's rule-of-thumb...

"Nothing is added unless it takes the player more time; nothing is removed unless something else adds more time."

I hope when they "flesh it out" that removes the unrealistic grind of everything and keeps it for only some things. But as for now (hence the aliens needing special equipment that doesn't already exist in game) it's better to not get your hopes up and rely on the rule stated above before anything else. I gave up hope a long time ago and then they actually did some things about the engineer grind (and only the engineer grind) enough so that I've actually made it 8/25 modular terminals into Marco Qwent so it was a good start.

I do especially agree with the materials and data storage though, especially when you're trying to save 'classified scan databanks' and 'aberrant shield pattern analysis' at the same time (50 each) and you're only able to hold 500. It fills up so incredibly fast. And never with the two mentioned that need to be saved (unless you go to each place and donate what you have but realistically I don't like going there until they can be used).

Agree to disagree.

Perhaps, if there was something more to them than just blueprint fodder, I could see the value in the variety. To me, it just seems like having more things, just because.

Don't get me wrong, the limit bugs me too. I hate hitting it.

However, when asking to increase the limit I have to ask. Why?

...To not hit the limit and be annoyed.

Sure. Ok. But what would you do with the extra space?

...Spam more blueprints

And that adds a considerable more amount of interest and variety, how?

No limit per item, but I would like to see the ability to turn off data scans, for those times that you are in a CZ and an RES, it can be pretty annoying having to constantly delete Data reads from the multitude of vessels you can at each instance. I would like to see a boost to the materials from 1000 to 1500 at least, if not 2000, and Data maybe to 750. However, turning off Data reads would be a great feature to have above all other options for materials and data collection. Otherwise, I would like to have the ability to select a specific type of material for collection, so when it spawns you can easily identify the highlighted material on your radar to better identify its location for collection.

100%

I don't have to pick up materials if I don't want to, but I'm forced to take on whatever results I get for a scan I never cared or wanted to perform.

Have you seen any of Mini's YouTube videos? He does hundreds of rolls on a module... Here is one with 300 rolls (300 of each material) on an FSD module. A little ott for me personally, but there are players that do this kind of stuff.
