Materializer - A Material prospecting API and Web App

The easiest way to fix those old records is to correct the "surveyed by" name in the Monster spreadsheet. EDMaterializer pulls from the Monster every hour at 30 mins past. If that doesn't work for any reason let me know and I'll fix it manually. Incidentally you may want to refrain from editing old Monster surveys from EDMaterializer after you've done that until I've setup number values as well as checkboxes. So it doesn't save over your data in the wrong flavor.

EDDiscovery:
EDDiscovery accesses the EDMaterializer api via a special "application" level login and password. Unfortunately the credential file isn't getting delivered by the EDD installer at the moment so it's access is read only. I think Finwen is going to look into it when he gets back to the bubble. I may add an EDSM style api key thing at some point so theres another way to setup credentials. I'm also planning on adding a button that connects directly to the web interface just for convenience.

UPDATE: I've updated those records in the monster, but you still might not be able to edit them in Materializer until I make it take into account all parties involved in a survey. Soon (tm).

Wow, Taen, I could 25 surveys from you already! That's impressive

Thanks! I won't generally go at that pace, though. I was keeping track over the course of my current exploration through The Rift, and that was what I had surveyed up to a few days ago. Ironically, I found my first polonium ten minutes after I posted here. The only reason I even landed on that planet was because I wanted to try out your site and see how it fit into my general routines. (Quite well!)

This is a nice app with nice design, am I to understand that this is the datatbase that will be used in EDD soon?

Also, I registered with the site but whenever I try to sign in I just get "internal server error", any idea why that happens?

Yep! The feature has been started but it's on a bit of a break at the moment. Currently theres a Prospecting feature in the EDD menu that's started but incomplete. It's pulling data down from Materalizer but it's not currently able to write to it as the credentials arn't hooked up. We'll get it all working properly one of these days... :D

I think that's because you hadn't clicked on the "confirm" link in the email sent to you when you registered. I've gone ahead and marked you as confirmed so you should be able to log in now. If you can't let me know!

Yep, I hadn't realized I'd gotten an email. It's all good now!

This is an excellent resource. Thanks.

May I suggest an small update? Allow for searching by material. I can see that this is going to become one of the go-to places for a lot of people now that we have Engineers demanding stuff from us :)

This is a feature I badly want to add. It's high on the list.

Ironically the thing holding me back right now is that I've been recruited to help out with a project to turn the Engineers spreadsheet into a web app. But it'll happen eventually... :)

Any chance of a daily dump of data in xml/json/csv like edsm?
We are not all api experts, and I would love to retire the Monster. It is no longer a complete dataset as every mammary who has written 'HELLO WORLD' has done their own thing diluting the data coverage.

Well, we're part of the way there I guess. There is a daily dump for the json, but it's in the same format as the api (json-api).

Details are here:
https://github.com/gregmalcolm/ed-materializer/wiki/Schema---Daily-Data-Dumps

TL;DR:
http://api.edmaterializer.com/api/v4/stars/download
http://api.edmaterializer.com/api/v4/worlds/download
http://api.edmaterializer.com/api/v4/surveys/download
http://api.edmaterializer.com/api/v4/world_surveys/download
http://api.edmaterializer.com/api/v4/basecamps/download

But... yeah, definitely more coder-centric. Not so easy for spreadsheet makers to work with. I think an easy win would be if I created a csv export too.

I also want to put in some "reporting" exports. Stuff for posting material reports on Prospector Central and a version of the "Mats" list that the Rock Rats use. Not to mention a better search feature.

Not sure how quickly I'm going to get around to all of this, but a CSV export would help a lot I think.

It's always been an objective of Materializer to cover all the ground of the Monster in this app so we can have a more user friendly experience. However there's definitely still things the monster does better. Materializer at least imports all the useful data from the monster but I've yet to create features for viewing/modifying stars and also for entering "Scientific" studies; right now you can only survey "BINARY" resources. You can at least view Scientific surveeys but you can't enter them from Materializer yet. We'll get there in the end, but lots to do...

I have been playing around with this tool the last few days - a most excellent tool, very needed. I was banging my head against the wall trying to find some materials and this helped tremendously.

I have been having engineer discussions with some friends and we've come to the conclusion that we also need a tool to cover asteroid belts and rings. Can this be modified to encompass those too?? Some of my friends have found a great many materials in some rings with "Material Content: High" asteroids. I'd very much appreciate if you could add that into the tool and the API.

Hello,

I hope it is not a touchy subject, but is there a relationship with the EDDB Material Logger? Is there any communication / cooperation between that project and the EDMaterializer project?

Heh heh, no not contentious at all. I haven't spoken to the EDDB guys yet but I think it would be good if we collect data from each other.

For now could rings be noted in their planets notes, and later that data could just be carried over.

Yeah, you could just log it with a note for now. I could probably script sonething to tag all notes with the word "ring" in it when I gethink around to it
