So, from what I could tell on my terrible mobile display. (discerning the stream is difficult on a crap phone, poor sound, etc)

As it stands, and let's assume the numbers in the stream become live.

6 materials equate to 1 material of the next grade in its class.

So 100>16>2

Okay, naturally finding grade four and five materials will still be better for those grades, but for tier III engineering... I quite like this.

That's if I'm even understanding it right lol.

As you have separate storage for every material, you can just casually collect whatever and then trade up whenever you are at a station with a materials trader. No pick up is a waste or blocking storage space.

Which actually makes my delight in this feature even bigger.

People are saying "MAR GRIND REALLY FD?!"

I don't know... I think the broker might ease the grind a little. We'll see of course.

It also means for planetary mining, you no longer pop rocks just to get them off the scanner while the material is left there as it was worthless. Now every rock counts towards those 30 technetium or whatever you need for the technology broker unlocks. Even if it's just incremental additions, it's still a plus.

It'll be a grind for PvP'ers and others with an extremely limited interest in the game. Anyone who does anything, be it exploring, mining, missions, combat or whatever, will come home with a truck ton of stuff and be able to trade it for missing stuff. Cant wait. :)

Agree, this is way better than current RNG, you can harvest 100 of the bottom 3 types and then get the ones you need for those high rolls.

Why do you think PvPers have a limited interest in the game?

Exactly. I'm just a normal player who loves the game. I'm really encouraged by the new system, especially the broker. As above, every material is now valuable, and to boot, we can carry them all without impacting our ability to carry others.

I'm a happy little stallion tonight.

Maybe I need a comma somewhere or something? And with limited interest I mean an interest in a very selective set of gameplay. After all, the more diverse the interest the more mats/data you'll collect while simply playing the game. :) I dont see a lot of SDC members joining explo tours, mining or whatever, and they were very keen on letting everyone know how much they dont care about the BGS either. Or PvE combat. Or actual piracy.

Or anything beyond PvP, really. :p Which is fine, but people who 'just play the game' without being focussed on one tiny aspect of the game will have way less of a 'grind', or feel the need to 'grind' to be 'competitive'.

I think he meant them as separate entities. How I read it. Grind for PvP players. Also a grind for people who don't really care about Elite.

Hoarder in me says he kinda likes it.

They hate Engineers because they have to engage in activities they don't like or enjoy. Their focus is combat only.

So how does this apply to me as an explorer who regularly leaves port on expeditions with materials for 100 or more premium FSD injections? Plus standard FSD injecitons?

You will now have a max of 100 premium injections. Assuming you are an explorer, you'll find the rest on the way with SRV and DSS. :)

the main problem probably is that the rarity of the material doesn't represent the actual worth of the material, or short, CIF is far more valuable than MEF

Now, back to my suggestion some time ago about about letting Collector Limpet controllers have a small number of built-in limpets in storage vs having to have a controller AND a cargo bay.

Think about it this way, the higher the cap combined with the ease of trading out materials (at a loss) also means they can raise the amount of materials needed for things or add things that need those materials. It's turning into a full blown currency system.

The materials were always just a currency.
