Of course, but now I can see it going much further and I don't like what I see. Hopefully it's just my cynicism getting the best of me.

You're not alluding to the possibility of microtransactions by any chance?

If so, that's just an inherent possibility that will always loom over Elite.

It also means for planetary mining, you no longer pop rocks just to get them off the scanner while the material is left there as it was worthless. Now every rock counts towards those 30 technetium or whatever you need for the technology broker unlocks. Even if it's just incremental additions, it's still a plus.

Yes, that is indeed an important effect of the Broker.
It will have a very positive effect on materials gathering in general.

Haven't even thought of that yet, but that's also a possibility... "For only 1350 Frontier points you can buy a x7 Materials booster pack that will increase your material gathering to 5 per item instead of 3! You'll be blasting Thargoids in no time!" I was more thinking in terms of how MMOs become laden with more and more currency types with prices that inflate over time as more things are added. It can become very... well.. grindy. We'll see.. I remain cautious. For now, I'll try to look at it as a helpful tool, but outlook is going to be dependent on the final conversion rates.

I think its a step in the right direction. I think the materials limit should not be 100 across the board but rather a much smaller starting point say twenty of each and then you upgrade as engineered add on and have to allocate across the materials. That way depending on your play style certain materials might be more important, so you would allocate to them. Allowing you a higher ceiling of certain components, subject to an overall maximum number of materials to be stored.

That would just over complicate things. Plenty of people do everything over time, so what, we reallocate when we feel like doing something else? What about if I like to upgrade everything on my ship and need nearly the full range of materials? Seems like a waste and limits the player too much.

I calculated the following:

6 Grade 4 for 1 Grade 5
36 Grade 3 for 6 Grade 4
216 Grade 2 for 36 Grade 3
1296 Grade 1 for 216 Grade 2

I think the changing ratio needs to be significantly improved, and/or 100 storage per material are far too less!
