General / Off-Topic Maths Puzzles In Pictures On Facebook - I Hates Them

I, and I am sure many others, keep seeing maths puzzles posted or shared on Facebook.
Often with a tagline like "Only a genius can solve this".
People cannot agree with the answer.
Here is one I've seen on Facebook, I got that fed up of seeing it, I added the solution ...

The%20Answer%20Is%20Fish.jpg

And another one I saw this morning was this ...

FB%20sum%20puzzle.jpg

This one annoys me because the supposed correct solution requires adding brackets to the equation.
NO. IF THE EQUATION NEEDS BRACKETS THEN ADD THEM IN THE PICTURE
with no brackets, the correct answer is zero because anything multiplied by zero, is zero.

There's another that has 3 numbers being added like (and this is not the puzzle) ...

2+2+5=20
3+3+6=54
4+4+7=112

The correct solution here is 2x2+5=20
My hatred of this one is that if the correct solution is to multiply the first two numbers instead of adding them,
THEN JUST PUT THAT AS THE EQUATION.

I'm at the point where I hate any maths puzzle picture on Facebook.

I quite like reading the comments on those posts - and wondering how people get to "wrong" answers.... :)

The answer to the first pic is 21;

The answer to the second pic is -21.

We don't need brackets when we take operator precedence into account.

You fail at maths. It does not need brackets - multiplication and division before addition and subtraction.

Those are all incredibly easy. Honestly, that should be third grade stuff. I am not trolling, either.

btw - 2x2+5=9, not 20.

Sometimes the question pops up why I dont use fakebook or social media...the examples you give demonstrate why ^

(I also got a bit annoyed about an old incident where the police tried to use material on my timeline against me...so I stopped using it entirely)

The first one is always a variation on some "picture doubled/halved'. Its boring. The second is literally what we teach seven-year olds in school. Its not for a genius, its for little kids. Its disturbing to think adults or teenagers can't solve that correctly in their head. It boggles the mind, really find it hard to believe the OP is sincere...

.... other than the fact that the image with two items equates to an integer number is divisible by two.
One boot is worthless... so it might be also zero. And one horseshoe makes you lucky. So lucky number is usually seven in western culture... so the result could be seventy.

That's still an assumption. You need to show that using the established rules from the previous "equations" for it to be valid. Just showing a different picture is not really within the rules of the game as established. It's just trickery.

Every. Damn. Time.

Like, yeah, sure. Genius among toads, perhaps.

When "only a genius" can solve baby algebra, at least I know how people elect 'men' like Trump into power.

It isn't so much the puzzle itself that annoys me, more that they keep on getting posted / shared ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME.

Yeah I got it wrong ... I admit, I suck at maths.

People are idiots, people want to be brilliant. People like easy crap that pretends they are awesome. People like to show random people they are brilliant. Because they are idiots they dont get it makes them look exactly like idiots. Thankfully you can often mute the sources quite easily on FB. :)

Best thing I've read today. Thank you. (and repped)
