Engineers Max 20 missions?

Does anyone know the reason behind the maximum 20 mission limit? I have various cargo deliveries/fetch missions & salvage contracts on the go.

As long as I can complete them I don't see why there should be a limit. Perhaps to avoid some sort of exploit? These are all legit missions, I am not mode switching, just traveling around accepting and completing contracts.

I think it was the mode switching Robigo runs etc. Some people even sold the slaves in their cargo to take more and more missions, buying new slaves while delivering as needed. Over 50 mil and up for doing one 'run'

Maybe just technical reasons. For every mission you pick, a poor server somewhere must roll events like redirections, NPCs, etc.

Yeah they don't want people to have too much fun. Gotta reduce the fun. Give a tiny little bit.. and then take away a bunch. Make sure you GRIND for it baby!

I must say, I am hard pressed to find a situation where 20 mission limit would be hit? even people that ran robigo didn't hit it?

Empire rank planetary base assault missions in certain systems (prior to 2.1, haven't checked since release) could easily stack to 40 or more before going to the same base and doing 2-3 tasks. Felt a bit "exploity" but it was in-game mechanics. I can see why they made the change. I can't see a reason why a CMDR flying around would be able to find more than 20 missions they want to take at the same time without mode switching.

It's not a huge deal but I can defintely hit 20+ missions, I have a massive cargo bay and see plenty of missions offering good rewards. I'll often complete 1 mission and then see 4 or 5 very good missions at the port, drop off the next 1 and see another 6 missions, it starts adding up quickly.

I guess the difference is I'm not picking missions purely on profit, I'll take stuff for good engineer rewards. Am at my 20 limit, not kicking up a fuss, just curios as to why they came up with 20.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Edit - @Mindenite - I'm not mode switching or stacking duplicate missions, just general haulage and data deliveries, you will often get 5 or 6 to the same port, many of them offering very good materials.

4:40 to scoop? And you smuggle with D thrusters? My world is crumbling before me. [redface] The max is 20 now.. but I've never even been close to having that many at once.

4:40 is to scoop 96 tonnes of fuel, the scoop only gets fitted on a trip to Maia, I only need to scoop about 15 tonnes. No point fitting A thrusters, you don't use speed for smuggling in large freighters :)

Good point... How are you avoiding scans then?

2.0 - The old lock target and shoot with turrets to stop scan, silent run into stations.

2.1 - Have yet to be interdicted by a cop enroute, they really toned down police doing random interdictions. Turn off 'report crimes' so authorities don't arrive when you are under attack (they will scan while assisting you) Silent run into stations & surface ports.

If that was the problem, the easier solution would have been to make the commodities 'unique' so if you sell them or your ship is destroyed while carrying them you fail the mission.
