Max number of rolls for G1-G5 for DD's from Palin?

I do not know whether I have had more than ten rolls on a G4 or G5 anything, these days.

What might I expect on

G1=
G2=
G3=
G4=
G5=

I think I am just going to concentrate on my Vette for now as I am getting close to Eliite in combat and I want to concentrate on that, so this will give me an estimate on how many mats I need to collect.

Thank you.

Not done for a while but if Palin at level 5 then probably as follows ......

G1=1
G2=2
G3=3/4
G4=4
G5=5 for near 90% .... (to max not sure)

Rough estimates ....... best hunting cmdr

Assuming that you're already maximum reputation with Palin, then
G1=1, G2=2, G3=3, G4=4, decent G5=3, maxed G5=15
is probably your 'worst case' usage, and you'll probably not need all of those lower-level rolls.

If you're starting from zero reputation, then 4 rolls for every level up to G5 is more likely.

G1=1
G2=2
G3=4
G4=6
G5=11

Is how it comes out for me usually.

Engineering costs for G5 dirty drives:
Cracked industrial firmware
Cadmium
Pharmaceutical Isolators

So just over 10% of three separate items wasted. That's the time investment of collecting those three items just frittered away.
If the number of rolls to achieve maximum matched the grade (G1=1 roll G5=5 rolls) that's lot less wasted stuff and a lot less wasted player time. Also the exchange rates at traders is extortion.

Fdev needs to tighten up on what it views as "valuing our time".

Don't forget you can trade mats for what you need.

I've been scooping mats galore at Haz Res and CZs for the two recent CGs. Got my lasers modded as a result. Any stuff scooped will do, you just trade it for what you want later.

The exchange rates at traders do seem a lot, but when you think you are scooping up the equivalent of trash to trade for good stuff, it isn't so bad.

Seriously, I'd pay a billion credits to guarantee results like that without a 2nd thought.

I find that G5 mod's take at least 10 rolls to complete.
As a "rule of thumb" I always go to an engineer expecting to have to make 6 G5 rolls to get a "decent" result but then you're looking at anywhere between 10 and 15 rolls to complete the upgrade, depending on RNG.

Also, after doing a heap of engineering recently, I feel like it takes less mat's to upgrade smaller modules and more mat's to upgrade larger ones.
That might just be the RNG being spiteful to me though. [where is it]

I've seen 100% complete G5 mods with only five G5 rolls, but 7-9 is more typical, and 10+ isn't uncommon.

Rarely do any of the other grades need more than three before you can move on to the next.

This - I always gather materials for ten, and normally it's 7-9. Five or six is my best, not sure if I've ever gone over ten, but if I have I probably had more mats anyway so didn't notice.

Now do we have a definitive answer on whether maxing out lower grades minimizes rolls required on higher grades? It *seems* like if you leave a circle noticeably short at a given grade, on the next one it has more ground to make up, but have never attempted to test it.

I always maximize the rolls just in case, and I think I will have at least 15 of each mat just in case.

Thank you.

I've done a G5 in six rolls today which is the best I've ever managed. Usually it's anything between 9-11. Worst I've ever had is 12.

Assuming maximum rep with the engineer already, the other four grades tend to be stable at the same number of rolls as the grade you're rolling, i.e. 1 roll for grade 1, 2 rolls for grade 2 etc.

Any tips for getting Pharmaceutical Isolators? Been hunting them all morning and got like 3 so far.

HGEs in Independent systems with Outbreak state, typically high population. Be sure you're in deep space. I've been bounty hunting in an Independent system lately (current state Civil War, previous state Boom) and have found some dropped by Anacondas. Rank doesn't seem to matter. EDEngineer shows I've found 15 in the past couple weeks so the drops are rare. HGE is your best chance.

I got 26 in 30 minutes.

Look for a system in outbreak with a very high population, and preferably one star,(makes it easier to stay in deep space for me) turn on the orbit linesd and sollow them on the outskirts and watch them come.

I gave up trying to find a population in the billions with one star so I went to Ceronir, population almost 800 million and it is good right now.

The higher the population the better.

G5'd my Vette and Kraits thrusters with DD's, then I went and got my Cutter, got through G4 DD's, and I looked and had only 8 Cadmium.

I was wringing my hands together, but I got the full G5 in 6 rolls, woo hoo!

And I am very happy with the results.

I now think the 2 must do to G5 engineering on every ship you own is G5 long range on the FSD, and G5 DD's on the thrusters.

As far as gathering materials goes I have this hope that every generation ship will become salvageable derelicts when space legs arrives.
Each being their own self contained 'level'. Puzzles to solve such as getting atmosphere online, repairs needing done and at the end there's a bunch of G5 materials (a properly good haul of say 12 G5's and some lower grade stuff). There should also be ships automated defenses to bypass other looters (NPC or players) to shoot at.
I had a really long thought about the generation ship that had it's AI achieve sentience and a long running mission to find a body for the AI's intelligence and whole developing story around it.
In the end the AI you rescue goes off and gathers materials for you returning to you once a week to drop stuff off. Every now and then you have to rescue your AI when it gets into difficulty.
I know it's a total cheese dream in my own head but wouldn't that be a great reward for a long and dangerous mission?
Slightly less material grind via automation.
Hopefully one day.
