Max Possible Jump Range

Swap the 3D power plant for 2A - more power, better heat efficiency and it's lighter so you get another 0.05 range. And don't head out with that 8T fuel tank ;)

There's not actually a great deal extra you can get to compared to an Asp (and it's often hard to tell whether or not a smaller range could reach something), but I have reached 3 real life planetary nebulae that were previously unexplored so I'm guessing that the Asp crowd couldn't get to them. The main advantages are just getting places a bit quicker, especially when crossing sparsely populated areas. Also obviously if you want to set "furthest" type records. Disadvantages are that it turns like a cow which makes scanning a pain and you'll need to pack plenty of AFMUs as you're more likely to get heat damage if you jump into a contact binary.

These builds while good, aren't truly representing max ranges if they don't have a full tank of fuel. It'd be nice to have a ship that did.

I recon seeing a conda with 42LY jumprange, with a 32t fuel tank.

I'm totally fine with my 39-49,6 though.

The 39.4 build is with a full 32T tank.

If you ditch the discovery & surface scanners you can get as high as 39.65 with a full tank and 41.45 with a single jump's worth of fuel. But that sort of build is only of use if you are looking to break speed records, not exploring.

I found this thread trying to figure out a jump range issue.

My max range in the outfitting screen is 15.84 fully loaded.

The system I want to jump to is listed at 15.83.

I have "fastest route" selected, but it will not plot a one jump route.

Also, I'm at half a tank of fuel, and both ED shipyard and the outfitting screen show my current jump range as 16.02.

Sooo....what's going on?

Try and see if it will plot a one jump by having nether fastest or economy selected.

The route plotter always assumes you have max fuel load. If you just select the system then you should be able to jump to it.

Thanks, but this did not work.

Shouldn't it still have let me plot a one jump? My range fully loaded/fueled was 15.84 and Gal showed 15.83, but still would not plot one jump. edit: btw, I did try your suggestion, but it did not work. Or maybe that's what you meant...use the nav panel?

So, after trying that, I noticed the side nav panel showed the destination as jumpable in one jump (not red) with 15.8 as the distance. I scrolled to it, locked the destination, and it jumped in one jump. :)

I don't know if this is a bug or what.

If it is within your current range you should be able to select it via the left most icon on the galaxy map & then jump (that's the only option you have if it is more than 20 LY and I've used it several times). But if it's beyond your fully fuelled range then it will never let you select the middle plot route icon.

Anyway, glad you made it :)

I've actually always wanted to know that, thanks for sharing.

Actually, it will. You'll just run out of fuel before you get there.

I think what you mean is if you try to plot a route where somewhere along the path, your FSD can't make the jump distance required, then it won't let you click on the 'plot route' icon.

Yes?

Current build that I will leave with either shortly before/after powerplay.

Does not quite reach the 40LY mark but I planned it to be a long(ish) trip so anything ammo related I want spares (especially since AFMU's are weightless).

I still think we should be able to downgrade Sensors like we can with the power distributor. I mean 64T weight when the rest of the modules weigh 60.1T combined (not including heat sinks).

Are you sure? I was certain I'd plotted routes that required me to be less than completely full to make some of the jumps, I may well be wrong about that though.
