Have you ever thought about what dps vs eps (energy per sec) vs dpe combination in the end outputs the most damage over time? At first glance, it may seem a little simpler than it is. I've been trying to come up with a sound theory. I don't have time currently to go testing around, hopefully I will soon, so I'm wondering if anyone has theories of their own. Obviously this is going to be different for each ship as well as each opponent. However I'm going to assume I am fighting an opponent with a couple boosters and SCB's so their shields could take a bit of beating to get down.
Here are my thoughts:
-In my clipper, a 6A distributor gives 50MJ to the weapons at a recharge rate of 5.2mj/s.
-generally you can separate your 2 fire buttons to either hull damaging weapons and shield damaging weapons, or gimballed and fixed. I personally like the latter so I will look at that.
-My fire button 1 weapons should allow for a slight recharge of the capacitor to allow continuous fire and occasional shots with a strong fixed weapon (ie fixed beam, but maybe instead use something with better dpe)
-Even with gimbals, you are not always firing at your target, so I may be able to use more than 5.2mj/s with those.
-I'd like at least 1 gimbal to be a hull-damaging weapon, probably an MC since it has lots of ammo. If I decide I want to 1v1 and return to base, then probably go with cannon.
-Since I fly a clipper, I get only 1 fixed weapon and 3 gimbals. One idea that seems decent enough is to use a CL3 fixed beam to pack a punch for when it is on target and when chaff is being used.
Theory:
Since people like using chaff, I should keep 1 fixed weapon. Since I won't be on-target all the time, my fire groups can be slightly above the 5.2mj/s without depleting. Since I am worried more about energy useage on my gimbal-fire-button, DPE should be most important; and I should be more concerned with DPS for my fixed weapon. 1 CL3 g pulse + 1 CL2 g pulse + 1 CL2 g mc is roughly 5.7eps, and may be optimal with above average DPE. I'll use a CL3 Fixed Beam to be able to make some ground when chaff is being used, and to cause high damage when i can get it on target. Testing may show I need less eps useage for either/both fire buttons, especially since that 5.2mj/s is at 4 pips to weapons, and I am not on 4 pips to weapons all the time for sure.
Anyone have similar theories, different theories, for same or different ships? Has anyone done any testings like this as well? I thought this could be a good subject to talk about at the very least and see different people's thoughts (everyone is different with different mind-sets!)
