May have done something stupid upgrade / downgrade

I was so excited to have 25K Cr that I decided to goto the shipfitting and purchased a Gimball (sp) MultiCanon. When I tried deploying the weapons I overheated and air support was shutting down.

So I returned to Station, and sold the original pulse lasers I think they were, so I can now deploy the new Canon but I fear I might have downgraded myself.

Can anyone disagree and suggest I have not been stupid ;-)

in your subsystems set cargo hatch on priority 3 and fsd drive on priority 2 (should be enought just with disabling cargo hatch but just in case), so when you'll deploy your weapon array it will cut power supply for lower priority systems-cargo hatch and fsd drive is not essential for combat

oh and for strike runs you'll want 3-4 pips on weapons

You're not stupid - the Eagles stock powerplant is notoriously weak, so you should upgrade that first. Moreover, you could adjust your subsystem energy priorities on the right hand panel, so life support doesn't shut down.
