The MB4 mining equipment has been a trusted equipment for surface mining in the Elite Universe for a very long time.
However in ED we are just not there yet! Frontier didn't release and information regarding how we can do surface mining, and if it will be automated in some form. We do know that in the past it was very much automated and you could leave the equipment alone for a very long time.
