Not sure if related, but something fishy might be going on with the materials/servers.
In my case it went like this:
- i had a deliver contraband mission
- landed at the settlement (in apex)
- before disembarking i transferred some data (15 financial projections - saved just in case) i wanted to get rid off since i was very close to the cap once again
- i disembarked, Apex took off, i checked my inventory - no data at all, not one - zero. Also no mission item
- i still went to the NPC but the dialogue was clear - no "package" (it is possible the mission item was also data)
Anyway, i re-called the apex, took off and after clearing the planet i decided to relog to see if the missing data and mission item reappear
After relog i was greeted with an error message (something that cmdr could not be loaded) and a prompt asking me if i want to be moved in a "safe" location.
So after that i found meself back in the system i picked the mission (different one than the one i had the mission and i logged off in) in my ship!!! (nice taxi back)
I checked the inventory - no mission item, but i had back my 15 Financial Projections (well, they ended up being discarded anyway, so nothing to write home about).
Maybe it is worth noticing that i was using my Maverick with Increased Backpack capacity (which mod is known to be bugged as in if someone relogs or crashes with more items than the base capacity, after the relog the extra items vanish)
Just finished a mission to retrieve some item at a crash sites and found 2 power regulators while I was there
Mean mission handler vaporised them and handed me one... how has the mats bug not been hotfixed yet
So, by any chance - were you using a Suit with Increased backpack capacity?
Most probably it's not related anyway, but i'm just curious
If you didn't do any fluke i suspect something fishy with servers...
items should not just vanish from the inventory, nor should they magically re-appear after a relog.
