meaning of shield status in navigation menue

Hi,
is there already a description of the new shield views, half light/black shield, light shield and black shield in the navigation menu (left side), which are surely related to the war status in a system?

The shields indicate settlement security level.

It would be nice if the symbol was placed beside the other settlement symbol indicating settlement type. Nicely aligned and organized as one would expect. And its meaning would be a bit more intuitive. IMO it looks sloppy.

I find it harder now to quickly find the pointy icon indicating my destination, for quickly turning supercruise assist on/off. Sure would be nice if the selected destination was highlighted.

e.g. I find a settlement +++ white shield, as well as a ++ black shield?

It’s the security status. And this has been answered already in other posts.

I would not ask If I wouldn't have found an answer somewhere else.

The pluses are the settlement size. Security was previously displayed as "[High Security]" or similar IIRC

This one.
+'s = base size
Shields = Low/Medium/High Security, used to be displayed as [Low/Medium/High Security]

That's pad size;
nothing= small
+= Medium
++= Large

Gotta be careful with that, as it only applies to Odyssey settlements.

Horizons surface outposts without any docking ability also show +'s, and feature +, ++ and +++ variants... while being completely undockable.

The shields are a bit confusing at start, but eventually one get used with the meaning
What i find more confusing is the shields break the visual cues for selected destination when scrolling fast through the nav panel through the multitude of data there.
So with those shields i find it harder to spot the marker near the targeted destination when fast scrolling



However, i really like that now the settlement state is clearly obvious (active/inactive)
