If Frontier is to be believed, when Odyssey launches, Elite Dangerous will not support VR in its totality.
Not sure what you mean, anyway I don’t think our discussion here will change the future developments of EA and FD.
The point is we don't know what the future developments of FD are. It's all speculation at the moment.
I am neither happy nor sad about Odessy because it doesn't even exist as yet
It is known that Frontier will not support VR at launch in Odyssey, and it is known that Frontier have not indicated when that support can be expected.
As I said above
Why would it be problematic for the new consoles? They will be more powerful than lots of the PC's players are using now. There are issues with VR and First person perspective when it comes to nausea among other things. The movement mechanics and VR devices must be designed in ways that reduces and in best cases removes nausea completely. It is all about the perfect motion and the perfect device. Eyetracking and headtracking VR goes well together as it optimizes graphics at the point where your eyes are focusing. All VR equipment requires very low to zero input latency to remove all motion discomforts. VR equipment must be small and not cumbersome for use with 'grindhog' games i.e. very long hours grinding for mats or credits in ED.
I do believe that the graphics recommendations for VR in F(irst)P(erson)S(hooter) mode in ED might be problematic for consoles. That could be the reason VR might be delayed.
Odyssey is 9 months away so why not wait until it's at least released and we have more information. Not sure what you mean, anyway I don’t think our discussion here will change the future developments of EA and FD.
You are happy about Odissey and I am not: have a nice Sunday and enjoy !
Perhaps being forced as a customer to get the new console is the concern. Why would it be problematic for the new consoles? They will be more powerful than lots of the PC's players are using now.
As someone who still flies with the DS4 even on PC, this is the least of my worries. As RELSPI said elsethread (half jokingly)... Getting a VR FPS game to use the same controls as it's vehicle counterpart will be tough.
What we have now is fine, and FD could make a FPS/VR game, but think about controls. You can't (easily) walk around using a HOTAS! Using a controller might be easier, but we all know how married FD/ED is to the X52. Keyboard and mouse is the obvious way to go, but that means having a keyboard convenient with the other.
I'm going to be optimistic and assume the Not At Launch to indicate that they are still trying to work out how to do it without breaking the spaceships game.
If Frontier don't do Odyssey in VR I don't think it will matter what system you use.Perhaps being forced as a customer to get the new console is the concern.
Agreed. I play ED on an Atari 2600, and this new Odyssey update better well support it!Perhaps being forced as a customer to get the new console is the concern.
I have no problem using a HOTAS to walk around in VR games. It is entirely down to how you have it setup. I use a CH joystick and throttle so I'm not even married to Frontiers choice of controller. As RELSPI said elsethread (half jokingly)... Getting a VR FPS game to use the same controls as it's vehicle counterpart will be tough.

I think that the misunderstanding is that you wrote "we don't know" while we say "we know that at launch Odissey will not support VR".
Right now though the only thing we know is that it won't be in Odessy at launch, no more, no less
No the misunderstanding is you don't read what I write
It looks like Squadrons is going to be my new home... FDev need some Hello Games devs to show them how its done (even though that game runs like dog poo in VR).Star Wars Squadron, to be announced tomorrow will have VR support:
Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsSquadrons/comments/h8c9y5/star_wars_squadrons_will_support_vr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I know it's early to have opinions about it and it's EA and it will not be a sim etc etc.
I just find it weird that while we have finally EA announcing something about VR in space, while FD is dropping it... 2020 weirdness at its peak.
