Mechs instead of legs!

I suspect that rather then walking around using our actual commander legs and feet we'll end up with more vehicles. Perhaps we'll get robots or mechs think Alien mech suit or Terra Nova Strike Force Centari style powered body armour. I would be more than happy with this, anyone ever played Terra Nova from the 90s? great game under rated brilliant story and cut scenes, like playing a movie.

If you think about it would take less work than making first person mode/space legs!

No thanks, i want spaceless to separate us from the machines we are. "Mechs" is just another cop out...que "fade to black..load in to mech legs". At the moment we are either a SLF, a Ship, or an SRV...We are not an actual person because we cannot separate ourselves from those things.

We're still people, we just have severely atrophied leg muscles from extended zero-gee living. We just need Performance Enhancers and some extensive physio.

I wouldn't see the addition of mechs as a "cop-out", because we do need more deployable mini vehicles. It would just need to be in addition to our physio, not a replacement.

Let's have BOTH!

While I wouldn't necessarily rule out mechs as an item ( not sure on what the lore position is on such things) , they don't cut it as a substitute for legs. If they are small, you end up with something like Fallout's power armour ,at which point you've essentially already got legs. If they are big and stompy, it's just another vehicle, so what's the point. If you give me the choice between a big stompy mech or a bigger more capable SRV variant, I'll most likely take the SRV.

If the mech can move about the station and access the factions that way instead of at the cockpit all the time, I'd be ok with it. Otherwise you're stuck in the ship with the same HUD. Heck, different style HUDs would be wonderful, albeit a bit difficult to master again, but isn't that the beauty of having an entirely new ship? You see a pilot get into a foreign ship, he has to learn the controls, figure it out.

If the mech could exit the ship in space, enter orbital descent then land, that would be good as well. I imagine a wing of mechs doing battle on the surface against installations. Imagine you could launch your mech, and it could get a Thargoid in a rear naked choke. That would be epic.

If you mean battletech-sized mechs, that wouldn't satisfy the demand for spaceleg, the appeal of which is to see and interact with the universe at a human-level, which is of course impossible when you're towering 90 feet above the ground. Not to mention mechs don't make much sense when energy is as cheap as it is in the ED universe and you can just fly over any rugged terrain that would prove problematic for tracked vehicles.
As for using human-sized exoskeletons, that would only reduce Frontier's workload regarding animations, but those can be as basic as needed anyway (poor animations haven't stopped Bethesda from creating super immersive games). The real challenges would remain. Beside, what is the rationale behind everyone walking around in them, and what room do they leave for non-combat interactions? Please keep in mind combat would ideally be one subset of the whole feature.

Ok I'll take mechs if we have to swivel around on our chairs, get up, walk to the mech bay while the ship is still doing whatever i left it doing and climb in. Until every movement we make not related to ship control isn't a fade-to-black-loading sequence i still believe we are dash cams glued to windscreens.

Having something to actually get up and walk TO for fun reasons, is probably the biggest hurdle. IDW them if it means I need to take my spaceman to the spacecan in his spacevan.

Agreed.

We have enough vehicles already, although down the road this might be a nice addition to augment the SRV, I definitely wouldn't want it instead of Elite Feet.

Imagine soddering up to a bar in a space station in a Mech! lol! No thanks.

Give me my Mech!

I demand to be able to deploy it in mid air too so I can jet pack it down onto my target. Raining shooty death on my victims!

Can't rep you enough OP.

Would be cool to run around our ships and customise the cockpit once day but having mechs and robots on planets that move like a first person shooter, this would take less work and mean we get a form of walking/space legs sooner.
