Did anyone dare to remove or replace the engineering on the Modified Shield Generator, e.g. with Reinforced Shields, and can tell about the outcome?
As far as I read in a previous post for the Modified Seeker Missile Rack, one modification could remain. I'd expect it to be the Thermal Resistant Shield in this case.

Nope, you kill both mods in the process. Only a special effect may be added without harm.

Ha! Yes, just the special effect. Trying to change the other engineering breaks it.
Tested on the original doubles for science.

nah, it shouldn't. bi-weaves are so much better on combat vessels (albeit not so much in class 3, but still). my shieldgenerator will go to one or the other trade python i think.

got to admit I never fought earnestly in anything lighter than a Vulture. Did dabble a bit with unengineered Vipers or suchlike but those attempts usually ended in a Rebuy. xD So I can't really tell if a light fighter would be better with a regular shield or bi-weave.

Too much power usage for that and not enough absolute value.
For exploration you need a shield that is light, uses low power and has good absolute value (collisions are doing absolute damage, resists do not matter)

You'd have better results with a 3a reinforced with low draw - as in stronger shields for less power usage.

You really think a 3a shield will help you against gankers?

And this is your Orca with a standard 3A reinforced with low draw shield - same thermal resists, better kinetic resists, 474 vs 372MJ absolute values (100 more!) and of course, less power used.
