Newcomer / Intro Meeting my friend at the gate of Darwin Orbital, Hajo

I was appointed to meet my friend at the Hajo system and go digging some meteors. We both were at Open Play mode and tried to scan each other in hyperspace or just meet at the entrance of the Darwin Orbital station.
We were talking on skype.
Nothing worked, we couldn't see each other, no way. Then nasty thoughts crossed my mind; could Open Play be a hoax??? :eek:
Is it so that we have to join a certain group in order to see each other?
HELP!!!


BTW, no chat would work between us in the Elite online chat. I could see my friend has logged in but my messages and his messages wouldn't reach the recipient!

You are in different instances. You have to be in same group or something, dunno how you can do that. Maybe someone with better knowledge can guide you in that :p

Currently "meeting up" with a friend can be quite difficult in ED especially in Open Mode, well until "wings" is released. There is of course group play, but then again you wont encounter any other CMDRS

I've found the only way I have been able to meet up with my friends when we are separated due to being "instanced" has been to do one of the following:

1) Enter SC and leave the normal space around the desired location, only to do a U-Turn and return to that location. (Works some of the time)

2) If meeting at a station simply dock, then save and exit to the main menu, then re log back in, then check your contacts list (Works most of the time and depends on scanner range)

3) Leave the system completely only to then reverse course back to the original system (Works most of the time, but can be a pain in the behind if meeting no where near the systems Nav Beacon)
