Meeting people and finding people missions questions

Hidy ho all,

I just took a mission, which required me to meet a contact above a planet. I found the contact, then got a message saying they were "Going down" and asking me to follow them. I thought this meant into the planets atmosphere, but then the contact just disappeared. There was a low energy wake where they were, and figuring they had dropped out of frame shift I dropped as well. But then the contact disappeared. The contact then respawned in a different ship, and said the same things. So this time I got right next to their energy wake and dropped out. Still nothing, the contact was just gone.

How am I supposed to follow the contact if they just disappear?

Also, I've seen a few kill missions around as well. And, I was game to take them, but I didn't see how I was supposed to find one person in an entire solar system. So, is there a trick to tracking people down in this game?

You have to target their wake and follow it. If all goes well, when you get close , it should say "safe to exit", then leave supercruise. Getting interdicted or taking too long can cause them to disappear. Going back into supercruise should "reset" the encounter. I learned this the hard way, by failing a bunch of "rendezvous" missions. Still always kinda dicey, especially if there's a limited time window.
