Outside of marketing, Megalodon wouldn't make sense for this game. It would be the only fish, and the only animal from the Cenozoic in the game.
Something like Xiphactinus would make more sense, as it's from the Mesozoic.

Also, I don't think that tail in the Twitter video looks like a shark tail. It looks too symmetrical. The animal also looks very shiny, which is not what I'd expect from any shark. Both these features are something that would be consistent with Xiphactinus.

People, I've realized something a few days ago. Megalodon is related to great whites, right? So, would it not be able to survive in captivity just like them? You know, we have our favorite animals in the world, but not all of them are tolerable in captivity.

Even if that's true to real sharks, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a reason Frontier can't or won't ever add Megalodon, one way or another. Especially what this game already can house and what they've been adding that would've once been thought of as "real-life impossible" in some way. I don't think they would any time soon because it doesn't feel like something they will do for this game, but not for the reason you suggested.

If that real life rule applied, most of the species in this game would have trouble in captivity.

No, it's not really closely related to the great white. Not even in the same family. They only share the same superfamily.
