Megaship Tour of the Bubble and Beyond (lots o' pics)

Greetings Commanders and welcome to another edition in a short line of threads following Commander Sneaux on a unique tour of the galaxy. Or is it the bubble? Or is it.....*slap!*

Ok, back on topic. :D

Today we embark on the Megaship Tour of the Bubble, and Beyond! We will scour the known, and unknown, galaxy in search of these larger than life giants of the stars.

Actually we can find them listed here.......https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...s-CQC-structures-and-other-new-in-game-assets

We are just going to follow in other Commanders' FSDsteps and see the sights. +Rep to all of them!

Our first stop is in the Alaunus system where we find the derelict generation ship Lycaon. This a quiet and somber place. From the pieces of the Physicians' log I was able to download I learned that the ship was stricken with an alien virus of sorts that quickly overwhelmed and killed the ships population. I sat for a moment watching the still rotating habitat rings and pondered what their lives might have been like. RIP Lycaon inhabitants.

Not far away we find Fishers Rest, a dockable megaship in the Aldebaran system. While simple in configuration the ship does offer some minor outfitting and even has three factions at play with a full mission and passenger board. And I'm sure the biodomes offer a nice respite for weary travelers.

While I was at Fishers Rest I took the opportunity for a gratuitous selfie. Meet Black Sheep 1. She'll do 48+Ly and was my base scanning ship.

Our last stop for the moment is in the Asgaa system at the Bowman Class Science Vessel. This ship reminds me of a ship I once saw in a history vid from the 20th century. I am sure though that the iconic design has all of the features of a modern science vessel.

Still I can faintly hear...."My God, it's full of stars!".

Well that's it for now. I'll be back soon to continue the adventure. Until then.....

Good evening Commanders.

Today's update will be a bit on the short side. You see, I swung by Earth and made a quick stop at my better half's place and while I was there a small but intense thunderstorm rolled through and well I guess there was a small gap in my ships hull plating and some water got in and fried a power coupling. So hence I had to wait while the repair crews restored power to the ol' DBX.

But once I got going I took a trip over to the Avikarli system and visited the Gordon Class Bulk Cargo Ship that is on station there. It's a pretty utilitarian design but I found the drive section to be fairly interesting. Imagine being in that little bitty command structure waaaay up on top with all of that cargo out in front of you. It reminds me of those barges they used to pilot down terrestrial rivers back in the 20th.

Our second and final stop today is at the Atlas Generation Ship orbiting the white dwarf star in the Charick Drift system. The glow of the star casts a haunting light on the ship. From what I gathered from the ships logs that I could access they had to leave one man behind to launch the escape pods when they abandoned ship. I wonder how long the biodomes operated for him before they went dark.

Well that's it for this update. I hope to be back soon.

Greetings Commanders.

For those of you not wrapped up in Beta or possibly stuck in traffic on your way to your eclipse viewing spot I bring you today's megaship tour update.

Today I was looking at the tourguide and it had destinations out near Colonia or another simply out about 1200Ly. Neither of those, especially Colonia, fit into my travel plan so I skipped along and ended up in......

The Gateway system and took a gander at the Collionson Class Asteroid Ship. This is a pretty interesting design to say the least. I mean how often does any pilot get to fly a rock (T-9's not withstanding)? Even the asteroid itself is the bow of the ship and I saw no discernible command station out front. Maybe the pilot just lounges in a hammock under a tree in one of the many biodomes and flies via a tablet.

My next stop was at the Banner Class Bulk Cargo Ship in the Gurney Slade system. It was kinda interesting but the sunrise view over the waterworld there was more interesting.

The last stop for the day was in the Hez Ur system at the Pleione Generation Ship. These generation ships are quite somber places and this one is no exception. Thankfully not everyone died from some disease this time. This ships demise came from a genetic abnormality that eventually caused all of the newborn babies to be male effectively ending any chance of a living colony.

hopefully soon I will have a chance to make that 1200Ly journey out to The Cete. But I really think going to Colonia again is out of the question. My first, and only, trip there was mind numbing to say the least.

'Till next time, Fly Safe Commanders!

I think a trip to Charick Drift system may be on the cards. Will take and leave him an honorary crate of beer as a tribute, I know that's how I would have spent my final days.
