Megastructures?

I'm curious if anyone has ever found anything in the 'megastructure' category (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megastructure under 'theoretical'). Has it ever been talked about/suggested to Frontier? Seems to me the galaxy is lacking in advanced civilizations that have dabbled in super engineering projects - would be an interesting find if they were out there!

Maybe the Galaxy has a Dyson Sphere or two somewhere, but with the parent Star hidden within the structure itself it does not appear on the galaxy map. rubs chin.

The universe of E:D seems to use AI and/or Thargoids as a filter before civilisations reach that point. Incidents in human history have resulted in all AGI research being secretly banned, the only other civilisation we've found was wiped out by its AI while the Thargoids seem to act as almost reaper-like entities periodically cleansing regions so they can access their pre-seeded barnacles.

You would think any civilization that ad

Interesting.. that doesn't bode well if true. Although it also suggest that the Thargoid are everywhere in the galaxy, and its a big place. Are there any hints of them as far out as Colonia? I've heard the rumor they are believed to be from the other side of the core, but is there anything to substantiate that rumor?

As for Dyson spheres, you would think a civilization that advanced would leave other hints of its existence, or less ambitious precursors like open-frame Dyson spheres first.

A Dyson Sphere .....

Personally I’d have a team just working on interesting things to add to the galaxy. But due to the enormous play area I can understand they would end up spending dev time on some things that would never be found, not the greatest business decision.

A Dyson Sphere .....
Man in his hubris dared to harness the very power of the vacu-um itself...

Edit: don’t we have the top parts of Space Elevators in the game now, just not the towers? I think it’s an asset from a CQC level.

True story: A guy I used to work with, who had a degree in engineering, used to go on about how it'd be possible to solve the world's energy problems by building a pipe up into space and then generating power from turbines driven by the vacuum.

Actually, on a related note, there's a fairly famous youtuber (with a squirrel as an avatar) who's currently advocating a similar idea, whereby pipelines laid across the Earth's surface would harness the differential pressure beteen different weather systems to drive turbines.
This is especially ironic since he spends a fair amount of his time debunking bad science.
Unless he's suggesting this ironically. 😕

+EDIT+

Also, stuff about ED, 'cos this post is definitely not completely off-topic. 🥺

One of the things I'd like to see in the game are O'Neill Cylinders (think the inside of stations but much bigger) that you could dock with and drive around inside in your SRV.
