Merge the Limpet Controllers

It doesn't seem to be realistic to me that we have so many different limpet control modules. They essentially only program the limpets, so i don't see why they should only be able to copy one single software on every limpet. I could imagine to have the different modules merged and modifications applied to the software which is used instead.

This would be a good thing especially for smaller ships. I got this idea back when 3.3 brought the mining changes and rendered the smaller ships mostly useless for specialized mining. I believe this change would make it easier for new players to use limpets and allow more ships to be decent mining vessels.

Just makes sense doesn't it.
Could make a lot of smaller ships a lot more useful and the others.

Fdev been asked this so many times it's embarrassing.

Logically this makes sense, since "limpets" the hardware are multipurpose units.

I don't like the idea of a one-ship-does-it-all though.

Which is why I'll keep bringing up the idea of replacing limpet controllers with limpet bays, which both hold AND control one type of limpet, no cargo rack needed. It would make sense with such an implementation that limpets the hardware would then be type-unique.

I absolutely agree, but I believe there are far better ways to encourage diversified ships
There seems to be an ongoing discussion thread about possible limpet reworks and I believe there are some decent proposals which could be a solution for that concern.

With the two extra internals introduced in 3.4, of course, small ships can carry a lot more limpet controllers than they could before. Makes ships like the Cobra III or DBX much more viable as miners.

adding more slots, while being a workaround, only "kicks the can down the road". And adding new slots like that could potentially create additional build problems (power/slot creep). and as they add more Utility modules, this will only get worse.

A more elegant solution needs to be created. "The can needs to just be picked up off the road."
