Merit and Rank: when do you move up?

Hi,

I recently started gathering merits to climb the rank ladder.
I started rank 1 like everyone and today I accumulated 250 merits. My rank did not go up. Does it mean it occurs at the end of the cycle or do you think it's a bug?

It will happen next Thursday for everyone chap, hope that helps out, so keep up your merits and you will go up a level next week and then every next Thursday after.

So week keep our merits for more than a week? It is not clear to me how long we keep them and how fast the decay.
