Merit decay calculation question

Hello all,

Yet another silly question, but that I have to ask since the powerplay interface is not clear at all regading merit decay.

Last week I have pledged to a power with 0 merits rolling over. During that week, I have earned 1500 merits and finished the week with rank 4.
This week, I am aiming to trade my way to rank 5, so according to my calculations, I must earn this week 10000 - (1500 / 2) = 9250 merits to reach rank 5. Could someone please confirm if this is correct?
Next week, I want to secure rank 5, so I should have to earn 10000 - (5000 / 2) - (1500 / 4) = 4675 merits. Could someone please confirm if this is correct?

First of all... Can't you just look at your power page in game and see how far away from 10.000 you are? (you should be wrong, you should only need 8500, not 9250).

Next week, if you earn 8500 this week for rank 5, you will need 750 (you'll be at 9250 -> 8500+1500/2+750=10.000). But if you only do that, you'll be in trouble the following week, when you'll need 4675, so I suggest you try to get close to 3500 every week after you reach rank 5.

Now the criticism... there are like 50 posts about the same topic on this forum already, couldn't you just look at one of them? You had to make a new one, just so smartass players will come in here with their theory (which is mostly wrong) and will try to convince me that this calculation is wrong, even tho I tried it in game (had VERY similar numbers as you, first week was 1600, next week I went for rank5, so I'm sure what I wrote :) )
