Powerplay Merit decay even higher now?

Hi, just a quick enquiry.

I have been accustomed to the merits being halved at the end of the cycle but this morning when logging in I noticed my current merit level to be sitting at 4447.

I had over 10 thousand merits last night.

What's the story here?

I forget the exact formula, but it's not that your merits are halved outright.

Your merits from last week are halved, the [half] merits from the week before that get [re]halved, and merits from 3 weeks ago disappear altogether.

Or something like that.

EDIT:

Merits from 3 weeks ago also get re-re-halved. 4 Week old merits are gone.

50% of your merits earned from the previous week + 25% of the week before + 12.5% of the week before that

Its not just you got 10k so its gonna be 5k.

it depends on how much you did last week and the weeks before that. Those are getting halfed to.

The rate of merit decay is what keeps me from Powerplay. I'd absolutely get into it, but I have a job a family, and only so many hours a week to game. ;P

If I made Rank 5 and went on vacation for a few weeks or ended up in Asia for a month... I wouldn't want to come back with nil or near nil. Its a design decision Frontier made.. so it is what it is. Its a mechanic that ensures commitment once you click that button to join a faction (I hesitate to use the word grind). But for those who are able to do it and enjoy it, then more power to them. Unfort I can't pause life for Powerplay :(

That happened to me. I kept meaning to start the PP grind, but I had something to do every other weekend for a few weeks in a row, so I didn't.

I finally bit the bullet, ground out 10k in one week, then went on a 2 week vacation, and came back to a couple thousand merits (2.5, or something). Dishearted, I let it fall back down to zero, but then in a stroke of [stupidity] I spent a week before christmas (idiot) getting back to rank 5, then went on vacation again.

Haven't been passed rank 2 since.

Just cash in the 50 mil and the bounty bonus (if this applies to your choice) whenever you do find the time to make rating 5. Otherwise it really isn't essential at all.

Yeah, its too bad with that mechanic. I've nearly jumped into it a few times... I had some time off back in December myself and nearly joined up. But then thought it through and passed due the whole merit decay thing. Oh well. I guess its one of those other things I won't be doing. I don't do CQC, I don't do Powerplay. *shrug*

Just finished my 4th week at rating 5, I'm not participating any longer, will wait until my last merit has fully depreciated (another 4 weeks), then leave power.

Undermining gets old. Fast tracking the hauling defeats the purpose if you're in it for profit.

I felt bad terrorizing NPC people for money, and it got old. Watching T9's and 7's explode was fun for the first couple thousand merits, but not much longer.

Military strikes and the like take to long to earn merits, IMO.

Military strikes are slow unless you have a top class ship full of guns and a wing alongside you for quick kills. But even then you're looking at a few hours of non stop killing which does tire you.

I think the delivery side should award greater merits according to the state of the delivery system receiving it. So if you venture many light years to deliver crucial supplies then you shouldn't be receiving the same paltry sum of merits as you would delivering to a next door system.

FD really seem to miss the mark with their own content sometimes.

I've just got one part-time wing mate with a cobra. Not the most helpful there. but yeah, you need to bring a full-on military spec vessel, and friends.

I was doing it in a Vulture. It was perfectly survivable, just took forever @ 10merits/kill. Even if I was killing twice as many pixel-people as undermining, the merit difference is hard to make up for.

Agree completely with that.

Then again, it's very easy to just deliver an Asp load or two to Abe Lincoln in Sol from Nanomam to keep up rank 2.

Hrm. Before now all I had found was resources that said if you hit 10k one week, next week you'd need 5k to hit 10k again, the next week you'd have half of 10k+half of 5k = 7500 and need only 2.5k, and the following week you'd only need 1250. That final number seemed low to me, but then I hear about all these new-minted billionaires up high above my 20 million or so assets and I figure okay, I'll give it a shot (with slower going to the first 10k because I have a life besides playing Progress Quest In Space).

Sounds to me like I been bamboozled. I'm gonna grind enough cash to slap a prismatic shield on my FAS and give the Princess back to King Koopa and go back to doing whatever I feel like at the moment, it sounds like. Grinding 2-3k merits a week slaughtering Archon Delaine's lemmings was enough to get old, especially with the interdiction issues.

Yet another Frontier Failure for the record wiki I guess. Can we revoke their game designer's uni degree so they have to hire someone else? :D

It depends on what you want Rating 5 for. Are you in it to maximise your credit grind or for the glory of the Power you are pledged to?

I don't have the stats but I would hazard a guess most are in it to maximise their credit earning rate. If that's the case then it's right up there as one of the best ways to earn credits. Why? Because you get 50 million salary plus double bounty pay outs with certain Powers (Hudson for example).

But yeah it gets boring as hell despite the mega millions rolling in. I managed it for 5 weeks at Rating 5 and put myself on the map financially but I'd had enough after that.

Having said that though, because I still enjoy periods of bounty hunting, I realised maintaining Rating 4 was a massive reduction in effort which still gives me up to 40% bounty bonus for only obtaining a few hundred maintenance merits per week, (approx 1 hour in a military strike zone).

Lets say you did go on holiday and let your Rating 4 decay to zero it only takes 1500 merits when starting from scratch so not a major undertaking.

So I just keep that ticking along each week without any kind of feeling of grinding. This still saves most of my time for doing all the other good stuff I want to get up to in the game.

Its worth considering.
