Merits and you

Would like some insight on what you guys will be doing. I currently have 1500 earned merits and 1000 so far waiting to be earned. Is there anyone out there banking merits to avoid the 50% waste of time tax until they unlock the top tier reward or going all out taking the cut and repeating. Carrying around all those merits is also a great risk. I wish I had a golden ticket to snag that juicy 50 mil. Decay should at worst be flat 15% even if they do lower top reward for it.

Upon my promo to rank 4 next cycle, I could invest what i earn to get back to 4. What are you guys up to?

I'm curious how you earned that many merits. I earned over 1500 myself just hunting and undermining in a single sytem of an opposing faction's control. It seems every other way is kind of well...not thought out properly. I mean 1 merit for killing an eagle and a python? Surely there is more merit in killing a bigger ship...

As far as banking merit, I never really considered that. It may be a good idea, but like you said, risky, because i'm assuming you lose them if you die.

They need to fix the merit reward system. Why is it I go to an enemy expansion system, join a security zone or military conflict, and still only get 1 merit. Yet...I get 15 for killing Fed Agents of Couriers. This system is interesting, but these merit rewards need to be fixed, pronto!

I collected 200. Got the first 100 then got a bit bored. I know now I will never get to a high rank in powerplay. Honestly I don't know how you guys have the patience, I get far too easily distracted :D

Undermining about 90% of it with about 12 hours of play(give or take) iw as fitting a new FDL and trying some other aspects out. bad news though, you can't bank them. week is reset 2 days early. 1k merits in the toilet.

I don't believe you can bank merits---I have heard that any merits not turned in prior to the cycle ending will not be carried over

I don't think there are any provisions for banking or investing. You earn 'em, you turn 'em in.

I got 950-ish on the first cycle, and have around 1600 this cycle. I feel I can easily maintain a level 3, and, unless there are intrusion by real life, a level 4.

I am about 1/3 way of doing those 10k and still not sure if I shall do it or not. I have no saves so I have to earn all the 10k through this 15merit kills. It's extremly hmm.. monoton and will still take me about 20 hours If I do.

But then I will hit the next problem... How to carry around 5000 PP's the next week with my 72/80 Cargo T Combat Asp???
So in essence it means eighter shoot again 5k the next week (and earned 50M that way) or buy something with at least 500T Cargo (more than 10 transport legs kills me patient) where I have no money for......
~
oh and I collect about 1k then I turn them in.
you lose them if you don't turn them in.

At this stage I have 16680 merits. At most I spent about 60 million outright buying merits. The rest I funded through gameplay, either by undermining or conflict zones. Find a conflict zone in a control system and get an allotment. Spend the next 30 minutes in said conflict zone where you can earn upwards of 1 million credits. Use that million to buy yourself 100 merits. Rinse and repeat. Good fun and merits for free.

Alternatively undermine for a night for a few hours and earn a couple thousand merits that way. Either way Tier 4 is very, very easily obtainable for anyone willing to put a couple of hours in each week.

One night of undermining nets me 500 on a go before my brain turns to mashed potatoes. this is around an hour and a half give or take. The merit system is just bad. they should be used for faction rewards, not maintaining rank. Like faction colors for ship or decals. laser colors, faction weapons , maybe even temporary vouchers you can purchase for increased gains in your profession. there are so many ways to go about it. imo this isnt the right one.

not that the same timeframe an hour and a half nets me 75 merits just sitting in a station. While its useful for days where you cant actively play, it isnt exactly engaging.

Yeah looking at this and having played it I think 10k merits is a big ask for Rank 5 considering you lose half the merits when the week rolls over.

If they keep the present merits per rank system I think a better solution would be to roll over merits as follows, where the percentage is how many of your merits are rolled over:

Rank 1-3 25%
Rank 4 - 50%
Rank 5 - 65 -75%

So to earn your rank you still have to put in the effort but then keeping it is a little more forgiving. People might well have grinded out 10k merits for a week but to continue to do that, even if the following week requires 5000, is going to end up being an extremely repetitive grind after a while. ;) Otherwise, six months down the line we might all be really fed up with it.

I earnt about 20 merits and then thought i really can't be bothered with this. I'm now doing assassination and smuggling missions!

5 is largely considered not to be a profit anyway(technically agree), as if you do nothing but buy merits and ferry em you can maintain your status. However after that is finished (arguably fast with a t9) each time you sit in station you technically earn 500k for doing nothing every half hour. so yeah you can still earn creds at rank 5, and the rub is you dont even have to play to do it(until its delivery time)

i guess after decay it'd be 250k per half hour. Still a decent haul for watching netflix.

That's how I feelt the whole weekend. I decided to do the 10k and I will not back off now mashed brain or not. I am stubrurn if I decided to do something... not good for my healthy I know. but then I survived the Aion grinds back then. Compared to Aion's early times this is penauts.

Problem is that I have more bounty on my head already than moeny in my pockets. I don't know what happens if I die in that system. If I have to pay of the bounty I am backroupt.

I too wonder how this continues next week.
I asume it's the 5333 of 10k system which means you have to transport 5k each week. I not even have a t9 and I HATE transport missions. There my brain really melts very fast. If it's the other system (1250?) than this I could bear but that is then some sort of free money generation which I see rather unlikely that they did something like that.

I am not even sure why I am doing it.. but I am doing it and will see what it leads me to. I just hope my brain doesn't melts completly. Really bad grind.
Oh and the rush is simple.. If I give it time I lose half every week.. so a lot more work at the end than doing all in one step/week.

Nice dedication! if i had the fortitude id do the same. Doing so at least once is a nice credit payout. I stripped down to a imp clipper(from a FDL) to run my interdict business when I was more motivated. Integrity costs were putting a hurting on my wallet. What are you flying?
