Merits, just Merits

Oh sweet enlightenment, now we got another update which
didn't take merits for one into account but even increased the work necessary for expansion to 5 times the effort?

Dear FD please keep in mind, there are small factions participating in pp, too,
which you just backstabbed by this update.

Having an advantage in expansion now requires like 6k to actually expand into a system?
Do you really think, anybody is going to be interested in expanding (1 merit per kill!!!!)
playing a 24/7 combat zone without getting compensated for the effort, apart from the hardcore
power players?

Was this really necessary?

If the merits would simply scale by ship-type and skill, I would be happy. I can pop vipers and even Asps all day long for 1 merit per kill. I killed hundreds this last cycle. However, the Elite Anacondas and Pythons which are so difficult and thick-hulled yet only pay 1 merit if you manage to get them alone and take them out... It could use some work.


I haven't tried piracy since the powerplay beta, but I agree with whomever said that the merits are a bit low per-ton. If you could scoop them all in a reasonable amount of time it wouldn't be so bad, but the space-cops were always showing up and spoiling all my fun. I'd get 4-5 units and then get chased off.
 
I agree with the OP, though I fear that some players would go solo mode, park their Anaconda loaded with shield boosters and beam turrets, then wait for the merits to accumulate...easy win, like during CZ oriented community goals?

Now if we could get merits for undermining tasks based on stealing cargo, that would be great. I like the challenge not to get merits for destroying the ship, but break the hatch, rush to collect cargo before the system authority shows up...but it is so little rewarding at the moment (1 merit per cargo, I barely do 40 merits an hour...)

Where this was an issue was with capital ships, this is also where I'd guess over 90% of the combat Elite ranked people got it from. That was fixed by making last hit kills by capital ships not give you credit. In normal CZ's you can get kills faster actively killing, and if you can leave your game afk killing and not be destroyed yourself you are using a hack or some sort of bot/automation to do the work for you (in solo of course).
