Merits per credit, rating increases?

I was under the impression from the powerplay reading material that increasing your rating would lead to an increase in either the number of reports (or whatever your faction calls preparation cargo) bought for your credits or the merits gained for each report. Now I'm being told this is not true.

If so, that's absurd. 100 million is a phenomenal amount of money, even if you get 55 million back. The way i thought it worked, by which, because of increases, you would actually gain some profit from getting to 10,000 merits, makes a lot more sense to me. We're talking weeks of credit grinding, even for large ships.

Because powerplay is a time sink + credit sink.

Indeed. Until now i was fine with it. I could deal with the massive time expenditure and immerse myself with the belief that, although a long process, I would still come out with some tangible benefit.

45 million poorer for reaching the top rating? It took me two months to make it to 100 million. For now I'll be a trade advisor to my team, but my desire to actually participate in preparation has been reduced considerably.

Frontier staff, please ask yourself this : how could the powerplay experience not be richer and more fun if people actually found it worth their while??
