Powerplay Merits + Rank?

First off, have not engaged in PP yet and am looking to.

I have recently been enjoying Massacre Missions in Conflict Zones and am wondering if it's possible to gain both Merits and Rank simultaneously in CZs? If so, is it a matter of finding CZs in an Expansion system to complete Massacre Missions in? Halp!

Firstly I would strongly recommend joining one of the official Powerplay groups who will be able to help you & advise you upon how Powerplay can suit your style of gameplay. Specifically, you can gain merits via combat either via special Powerplay CZs such as Military Strike Zones for those Powers that Expand via combat or for any Power via shooting down Powerships of an opposing Power (for example, if you are pledged to an Imperial Power you can travel to a Federal Power's Control System & kill Federal Powerships to earn merits).

That said, Powerplay can be counter intuitive so to get the best out of it really you'll need to join one of the official groups or a group affiliated to them.

I just joined PP because I want the prismatic shields.
I can not find a single piece of information in game on how to earn merits.
Could it possibly be that a game play feature that is years old has no in game explanation of how to get started?

There is an official manual but it was taken down. Powerplay unfortunately has a number of gameplay issues & serious bugs that FDev haven't been able to allocate the resources to fix yet. If you want Prismatic Shields the official Aisling Duval community can be found on reddit here… https://www.reddit.com/r/AislingDuval/

They'll be able to help you get what you want without doing damage to the wider Powerplay game.
