Newcomer / Intro message from a mysterious stranger?

got a message in my inbox from a mysterious stranger. tell me hes got a tip for me. im to fly to a planet and steal some information. just gives me a planet name and some co-ords.
do i ignore this or is it important? there is no mission in my list and no option to accept or decline on the message.
never done one of these misssions so really no idea where to start?

It's a tip-off that there could be something interesting and/or profitable there.
As to what, it varies a lot.

Do you do it? It's up to you, it'll change nothing if you do or don't. Play your way.
 
Just keep in mind that a certain fish faced admiral could be right so don't go if losing your ship etc would be too inconvenient after all even if the ship is covered by your rebuy reserved astronomical data and uncashed rewards are not.
 
I've had a few of these.
It's quite an interesting thing to do once in a while but it has some drawbacks.

The system they send you to can be quite some distance away.
There will be no little marker on the surface so, if you're not very good at navigation, finding the exact co-ords on the planet itself can be time consuming.
The value of what you find when you get there is probably not worth the hassle.

But everybody should do at least one.

Oh, should have mentioned to the OP... these things appear if you spend a lot of time in a single system. Saw many of them while waiting for people or things...

And um yeah, +1 on the Akbar comment.
