Engineers Meta-alloy and Felicity Farseer

good morning,

I have to bring 1 unit of meta-alloy to Farseer to unlock and start engineering.

I read that in "Darnielle's Progress - MAIA" it is possible to buy them (if available as it seems very rare).

I also read that it can be synthesized with the materials collected on the "Barnacle" sites, but how do I find these sites? Is there an site like Inara or EDDB where I can see in what systems and planets they are?

Ok. So I will go to MAIA, and if in Darnielle's Progress there are non in stock, I scan planet surface and looking for some Barnacles.

Thank you.

Just to talk, but if I had to find the meta-alloy, then I have to find the barnacles, and without an external site like EDDB or Inara or without a forum, do I should look for randomly scanning planets? ...but it would take months if not more.

Another question. An engineer that say "how to discover: Public data sources", what does it mean? How can I get to know them?

That just means that you already know about those, you don't have to learn about them by other means as you do for the rest of the Engineers.

Inara is a great resource for engineering related stuff ...

I have seen, but I do not understand how to do it in elite without external resources. For example, Farseer tells me he wants meta-alloy, and how can I find it without external resources for the game? Who tells me that I find it in the Barnacles? And even knowing it, I have to randomly explore random planets until I find the barnacles?

This has always been a weakness, however the new Codex in the current update should help with a lot of these in-game information issues.

It is a bit like the real world - if you want to do something you have to research it. So if you want to go fish for trout you find out where are good places to find trout, what to use (fly? lure? bait?), make your own rod or buy one, etc etc..... Just because information resources are pooled by players "outside the game", doesn't make them invalid, in fact it is encouraging interaction, however removed.

Now that 3.3 is released it's (finally!) possible to find out about the barnacles without either using out-of-game sources or getting extremely lucky or being extremely persistent.

If you go to the commodity markets in a high-tech or military system, then meta-alloys are on the market as something they generally buy. The commodity description tells you that they come from barnacles.

If you go to the Codex, you can find the barnacles in that, including a system and planet location.

You can then use the surface probes to find the exact spot.
