I'm sure the answer is already posted, but I've looked in Dangerous Discussion and here and can't find it.
.
I've spent hours looking for barnacles for the quest. I have found the odd one, but they are always destroyed already. So I'm wondering if I'm just better off gathering some explorer data and handing that in.

Anyone able to offer an opinion on this?

yeah barnicles dont give it anymore, or they didnt at 2.1, there is a post on galnet about 1 station selling meta-alloys. You can also check forums for the post but not sure where it is. Hope this helps

Also, when you get to the Maia system Darnielles progress is not listed in the navigation pane and does not show up on the system map. It is on the planet around which the station (Obsidian orbital) orbits ;)

At a rough guess "Darnielle's Progress" will only show up if they have Meta-alloys to sell.

I was flying between the planet base and the station trading between them (10k per ton profit). left the system to upgrade my ship. When I returned Darnielle's Progress was no longer listed.

This was the same in Solo and group modes. Currently Docked in Obsidian station wating the Darnielle's Progress to return...
