Why is the internet flipping out so much hate on this game?

I'm asking as someone who has never played an MG game, and I thought the Survive trailer looked like a fun game.

What am I missing?

Because MGS fans are a kind of religious cult who believe that MGS games are the most extraordinary game in history. And, without Kojima it shouldn't exist.
What most of them miss is that there are about three dozens of spin-off games with Metal Gear in a title already, and this is just one of them.
Also, I do believe MGS is hugely overrated. Some decent gameplay for the most part, but story and characters are just so silly it's hard to take it little bit serious. And yes, these games take themselves very seriously :)

To me, MGS is dead without Kojima-senpai so long as Konami is developing it. If it were Platinum Games, or anyone else not-Konami, I wouldn't mind (I simply will never purchase another product developed by Konami). But as it stands, Konami needs Kojima a lot more to do any service to MGS than he needed them. It was his mind that made MGS what it is, and Konami was the weight that kept him down in an ocean, and even the team that usually worked on MGS knew that.

But if you want to play it, go for it. I personally refuse to recommend or condemn any medium of entertainment since it's all arbitrary at the end of the day. I myself can't wait for Kojima's Death Stranding project to come to fruition.

Fair play. Like I said I have never played an MG game.

So I suppose my ignorance is in this case a blessing.

I think Kojima is overrated as well.. MGS is nothing special.. only the first original game was something special, after that they went all Asian with that game.
