Method for visual search for fumeroles and geysers

Afaik you can only find fumeroles and geysers with eyes 1.0

I don´t like to fly upside down and my AspX has already this amazing cockpit but I found it even better to fly like a helicopter:

With
  • full vertical thrust up
  • dive your nose for a nice viewing angle and then
  • gently push the main throttle to adjust altitude (vertical speed)

Be careful, behavior of your ship heavily depends on your thrusters and of course gravity but you´ll get used to it very fast.
And don´t touch your boosters or things could go whack :D

I didn´t find any geysers though but it´s real fun to fly like this[hotas]

How do you search for them?

This is the method I've used in my Anaconda. Honestly, it's almost necessary in an Annie because the configuration of the cockpit prevents the pilot from looking beneath the ship as it flies. I have found that boosting is quite safe as long as you have established a vector parallel to the surface. Boosting seems to act on horizontal thrusters just as well as forward thrusters. On the bodies I have flown over, I have observed that roughly a -40 degree orientation while firing horizontal thrusters maintains my altitude (assuming a level surface below). Of course, this will vary depending on the ship and the gravity.

Oh thanks for the hint ! I didn´t dare to try the boost 2000 ly out but I´ll test it when back in the bubble.

I'll tell you what, I've been flying around in my brand new Anaconda for the past few days, and I've found that a wonderful way to search for geysers and such is with an SLF, a fighter. Plus canyons are great and fun diversions!

Best bet is to just check the compat canyons and deepest areas, anything that is unique, seems the procedural content is hidden in hard to get or rare areas. And then theres the usual places where are wide open and u get rocks rocks and more rocks, ( thats where the lack of procedural content is a big issue)

Anaconda with SLF.

Launch SLF, but fly the Conda, set it level and go to debug cam scanning for things.

If something piques your interest flip to SLF and go look, flip back when you're done. :)

Look for canyons and fly at over 2km above surface with your radar set to max range and look out for tiny blue POI
Fast ship will help a lot as you can cover more ground
Not recommended outside the bubble as you may miss something (alien crash site, ruins, barnacles don't show)
Ideal for small rocky moons under 1000km under 500km even better (canyons are smaller and easier to explore)

Thanks for tha Patau82. If this is not a good technique for finding crash sites/ruins, what is?

I plan on going to practice on the one known crash site and one known ruin before I head out into the black to look for more.

Also, do all the things only show in canyons?

Yes that's great, was using both the helicopter and the SLF method during the beta. But my joy was short lived alas. I used the suicidewinder express to get back to the bubble in beta to try out the new ships and SLF, after the beta I came back in Jaques, there are no SLF capable big ships there for the buying, so even if they sold SLF bays and the fighters themselves I couldn't get a ship to put them in. I have summoned my two ships from the bubble to Jaques, and the main reason for that is to get the class A components out of them because Jaques, despite being 20kly from the bubble doesn't sell the gear or the ships to make decent exploration craft.

Sigh.
