Method to Expose New Content: Chained Missions?

I'm sure this isn't a new idea, but this seems like the one place on the forums where multiple posts might be desirable. I've tried to come up with suggestion that's constructive and doable.

As a player who doesn't have as much time as I'd like to play, I've found that I'm dissatisfied that there doesn't seem to be a midpoint between the sparse information on Galnet and the fire hose of the forums. Not only that, but reading the forums means that I'll feel more like a tourist when I visit already-discovered sights.

Here's a modest suggestion for a fix: factions that give missions to investigate this new content with a certain time delay after first discovery. Advantages include:

  • This is a method by which solitary or casual players can enjoy more of the content.
  • Time delay after first discovery won't change game play of those who are dedicated to searching out new mysteries.
  • Missions, as opposed to CGs, can give a player a sense of progression within a faction.
  • It seems to an outsider that the mechanisms to create such missions are already in-game and could be achieved on the server side without updating client.
  • If I were FD, I'd write the mission information when creating assets, with a script to make missions available when triggered by discovery. Easy! (Except for all the details.)
  • Faction-specific missions could provide players with a sense of choice. Galnet could advertise that Aegis is looking for pilots to do X, while Canonn (for example) is looking for pilots to do Y. Some overlap of interest is also possible.
  • If i worked at FD, I'd want the maximum number of people to enjoy the content I'd worked to create.

As an aside, I've been experimenting with interacting with the new 2.4 content only using in-game information. Biggest hurdle so far was lack of information on where to get new scanners and weapons. I finally found a system populated by other CMDRs, and was pointed in the right direction. That was actually a nice human-to-human interaction, but it was weird that Aegis didn't seem to think that was information worth publishing.
