Microphone is always on.

So I hear constant static noise in the background because the game keeps the microphone enabled. It doesn't matter if I enable push to talk in the key configurations, the static remains. I see no microphone options in the audio options. Can I disable it permanently? I don't use it and if I did I'd probably use Discord or something else.

Mine is always on and I don't even have a mic.

If you double click the mic icon in windows you can turn it off there. This may affect other apps tho.

To be perfecty honest, I don't have an icon. Maybe because I use a headset? Maybe I can disable a driver, but that will cause issues for other software I use.

Oh I think I accidentally figured it out. Your comment made me look in the options menu for my sennheiser headset and I saw I had side-tone enabled. I normally use that because the ear pads are quite soundproof and I need a little bit of feedback of my own voice to prevent me from talking too loudly. Disabling side-tone seems to have fixed the static.

Completely disabling the mic for ED would have been best, but I can make do with this. Leaving the solution here in case it helps anyone else.

Instead of clicking the icon, go into settings and find microphone, you should be able to change it there and only disable it for certain apps.

Edit: yeah disabling the driver would be annoying.
