Microprose - a comeback kid?

I fondly remember this name from my C64 gaming era, and now there seems to be multiple titles developed by them. Judging by the comments most of them seems to hit a sweet spot with many with oldschool graphics/gameplay elements - I have mixed experience with such games to be honest, but this one below looks fun and simple graphics means it is much easier to gain situational awareness, something I am struggling with in such games (in Elite the radar was always a huge help). I wonder if it will be in VR too.

Awesome Packaging, in-depth manuals, Keyboard Overlays , I was a massive fan of Microprose Games. Gunship and F-19 Stealth Fighter were two of my faves.

M1 Tank Platoon was my first foray into Micropose. I played that game to death (I and II). When Armored Fist came out I moved on ... then Steelbeasts ... etc etc

I was much more interested in armored sims so I didn't play the flight sims from Micropose but I'm sure I would have liked those too.

Gunship is armoured sim. kinda.

First of all it is just a brand name acquisition. It needs to prove its quality on its own merits rather than live of its previous business existence. I treat it like any new dev/publisher.
True, but many of the original people are involved, and it's very much a passion project carried out by a longtime fan of the OG Microprose. It's not some portfolio acquisition by a disinterested company looking to leverage the brand. The guy behind it is an already-rich kook and he doesn't seem to be overly concerned with even turning a profit for a while; he just really wants to resurrect the game design philosophy that Microprose represented.

It sort of reminds me of the resurrection of Hydrox cookies. In case you're not familiar with that story (skip to 12:30ish):

F15, Airborne Ranger, Silent Service, Red Storm Rising, and of course hours and hours and hours spent raiding the Spanish Main in Pirates!

Now there's a game that needs an update, preferably with some multiplayer worked in.

Ah yes Microprose, warm memories :giggle: Back when games were creative and original.
(yes we still have creative game development, but only in the indie sphere, big corporate has ruined AAA gaming)

This particular publisher had some real gems released, and my three absolute favorites; Civilization, UFO Enemy Unknown and Master of Orion.
These games were ingeniously crafted -with passion- by a bunch of intelligent nerds who had some crazy ideas and acted on them. The result was marvelous.
And these games still hold up good today!
