Game Discussions Microprose New Game Announcements: Falcon 5.0, Combat Air Patrol 2, B-17 and more!

Little article I saw, and have to say am impressed, so thought I'd share it.

The September/October issue of PC Pilot magazine contains a surprise-studded interview with MicroProse CEO, David Lagettie. Amongst other things, David discloses that Falcon 5.0 is in the planning stage, will “support many aircraft on release, including the F-35”, and won’t wrinkle its radome at “gamers who just want to get in and fly”.

He reveals that the company’s remake of B-17 Flying Fortress: the Mighty Eighth should be Early Accessible by Christmas and almost never happened. After years of fruitless source code searching, the aspiring reduxers were on the verge of giving up when an employee discovered the elusive essentials in an attic.

* One of MicroProse’s four B-17 projects.

And tacked on the end of a paragraph confirming that an Apache sim “in the authentic MicroProse style” is coming, was news that MPS had not only signed Combat Air Patrol 2, an Early Access harrier sim assumed by many to be abandoned, but were preparing a “very comprehensive update” for it, and planning to use its bespoke engine to power a new Battle of Britain sim!

Bloomin’ eck! CAP2 isn’t dead after all 😁

(It was a very promising sim that worked really well in VR before it seemingly bought the farm)

Ever since Tim over on THC moved away from the usual Friday-only post I keep missing news like this, so thanks for the link @WhiteHaulerMan 👍

I've flown Harrier in DCS. Can't improve that very much. With a decent campaign but I take the Liberator bombers or whatsatplane over something modern. Battle of Britain sounds fine.

I'm still playing IL2 Cliffs of Dover...best Battle of Britain sim out there for the moment
I've seen some guy's let's play. There was one strategic level sim once where there was radar, airfield and factories to bomb / protect. This would give campaigns a much better context and war status overview.

As a simulator, I agree (Second favourite DCS plane, after the F-14). But CAP (if they ever deliver) offers a different experience, seen as they're intent on bringing the dynamic campaign/operation planning of the original into the sequel.

Ooh.... I'd love them to remake Gunship (2?).

I enjoyed the dynamic missions where you'd configure your load-out, take off, only to sometimes find that the mission objectives had changed as the battle-lines had already shifted. It felt far more dynamic and real that it really was.

And besides, who doesn't enjoy using a chopper, and going in hard.

(Note to mods: I'll see myself out.)

E. Oh, I hadn't stumbled across CAP2.... ooooooh..... very tempted, albeit it has mixed reviews.

I own it. Wouldnt get it till we actually get some concrete evidence they're developing it again.

It was a one man dev team, and its been pretty much abandoned since 2021.

That said, what we got of it till that point showed promise.
