Microsoft previews new Windows Mixed Reality features with Insiders

This is an upcoming update as it has just been released to the Insiders program. The Microsoft Insiders Program is a voluntary beta testing group that is open to anyone. You can join it if you want. The update may be a month or 2 out, could be sooner.

Yes, I'm in the insider program granted I've never really used it lol. But just know they are actively working on making the experience better including better on SteamVR makes me a lot more willing to buy a WMR headset.

I joined the insider program to get the latest windows 10 mobile builds... When MS abandoned mobile I pretty much abandoned them. It weighed heavily in my decision to go with the Rift over the wmr. You just never know when they will throw up their arms and walk away from something. I wonder why they have stuck so long with the Xbox.

I thought the most ludicrous statement I've ever heard was them saying the world doesn't need three phone operating systems...

But windows phone was a huge flop, and Xbox is one of the highest selling consoles on the market. Also they've gotten huge backing from all the hardware manufacturers on WMR headsets too and surprisingly it seems like they've been selling pretty decently here and there. They tried to make the phone OS, and it just didn't sell. The market there for told them that consumers were fine with the 2 options they already had.

We can debate operating systems on the phones to the cows come home but it was the lack of direction on Microsofts end, the constant revamping and changing of the OS, that drove app developers (and thus consumers) away from the platform. Win10 Mobile was a very good operating system, but it had no apps, so why would anyone choose the it? It wasn't because the OS was bad, it was because you couldn't do everything the that the competition does.

As far as the consoles go, while there has been plenty of competitors, there really only has been 2 systems. My wife went out and bought my grandson a PS4... If I had known that it wasn't backward compatible I would have stopped her. The backward compatibility on the Xbox is huge.

Yeah a lot of that makes sense. I'm either going to pick up an odyssey or wait for the vive pro.....I'll decide over the next couple of weeks. Everyone is saying the Vive Pro will be 799 bucks though and not sure I want to spend 300 more on that vs the Odyssey especially when it's had issues with the current Vive in ED and such.

I thought they backed out of Windows Mobile because they wanted to go with their original vision of "Windows Everywhere". The Andromeda project is moving the full kernel to a modular Windows environment.

Still, I use this 950XL and get a bit annoyed at their lack of attention to this thing. It had so much potential.

I'm using the Samsung unit with a GTX 1060. Looking good so far. Pretty much only got it to use in Elite.

I run the 950XL as well. I keep reading about Andromeda but I'll believe it when I see it. The death of Win10 Mobile was pre-ordained when Intel couldn't deliver an X86 mobile chip.
