I heard that a programmer working for microsoft games and a big fan of the elite series of games persuaded microsoft to make a virtually exact copy of elite. It has the working name of 'space sim trader' And will be released this summer. And will feature a complex work user friendly trading interface, as well as planet mining, space combat, and 1000 plus missions. You can play as either an earth trader,starting on earth or as one of the various empires scatterd throughout space, giving you the unique ablilty of starting anywhere, with access to different starting ships and brand new galaxies. This game has no ending and is completly open ended. And with 100+ known empires at the beginning this game is set to blow away anything you have seen before. Additonal feratures include but not limited to. The ablilty to hire escort ships later in the game, when you aquire larger ships. Some 10.000+ ships. 2 million+ known palnets,star systems and galaxies. warp holes, black holes. Alien races requiring different currencys making it neccesary to use money exchange rates to trade. This game is going to be huge. WATCH THIS SPACE.

Yes it will feature planetary systems, as well fully realised newtonian physics.
My source. There is a microsoft game developement internal news letter, That is for certain microsoft departments. This is a confidential publication meant for microsoft game division only. I have access to these letters from time to time from a friend of a friend working as one of the many programmers in the gaming division. There are 100 of programmers so i can relay this info without the source being known. I know many will take this as a leaf in the wind and of no real value. All i say is summer is close....wait and see.

But such a game would be so fantastic, especially now that there is now real alternative to the old Frontier game.

I tend to take unsourced statements with a grain of salt.
Especially when detailed surface scans of Redmond and surrounding area performed by my cloaked ship currently residing at L4 point of Earth-Moon system fail to reveal any clues hinting at M$ Elite clone being developed.
Also, screw the diffraction limit, when you have ships capable of cloaking, free in-system and FTL (not really FTL, more like wormhole to be exact) interstelar flight you can figure ways to work around the diffraction limit.

How on earth do you know that the MS game is far superior??? You know nothing more than we do about the upcoming E4 so how can you possibly draw a comparison?
If you had any real desire to be taken seriously then you should probably consider your statements before posting them here. Post them as hearsay not as fact simply because you have no real way of verifying your proclamations as fact.
Try not to operate on the idea that David and Frontier are going to respond better from thinly veiled and ill thought out threats because my friend it certainly wouldn't make me feel any real need to hurry my development let alone respond favorably.
Unless you have something useful to offer and/or learn how to operate as a mature contributer just don't pipe up with random stuff.
