General / Off-Topic Microsoft Surface Pro 7

Who's keen on it? I've grown up with HP, having got my 1st custom desktop PC mid 2016. I still have my white HP laptop from mid 2015 but it's begun to slow down, original battery failed start of this year got a 3rd party battery cause HP New Zealand charges NZ$300 for a new battery. 3rd party one only costs NZ$50 and works. But am looking to upgrade.

An authorized NZ retailer is selling an HP laptop with an Intel Core i5 quad core 8th gen CPU, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM, 4GB MX150 for NZ$1600. The Surface Pro 7 will likely cost twice that amount easy.

But it's the features of the Pro 6 and Pro series I like. Ultra portable, you can draw on the screen, it has a pen perfect for school/uni and helps reduce the need for paper and notebooks. Corning gorilla glass.

Was going to get the 6 but Microsoft has released tiny bits of pieces of info about potential outcomes for the Pro 7. Confirmed is USB C charging. This is super quick, no need for those $100+ power bricks and it will charge faster than the Pro 6's magnetic charger. Microsoft got a lot of feedback about how the Pro 6 doesn't have USB C but the Surface Go has.

I'm saving up for the Surface Pro 7 256GB version (I know they'll have one as see their pattern with previous generations). I've set a NZ$3,000 budget for it. Microsoft is looking at AMD and Qualcomm processors. As long as it's quad core and I prefer Intel. They're looking at the newest generation of Intel called Ice Lake. But Intel can't easily and quickly mass produce this new generation when it hasn't completely released quite yet. As for release, it looks like a lot of people including me would like to see a towards end of 2019 release, but it could be mid 2020 at worst.

I like their Microsoft Surface Movement video. Had I viewed it in 2012, I would have ditched HP. A lot of young people in NZ tend to go for HP or Mac. Mac wins in aesthetics but since I was brought up knowing Windows, even schools in NZ use Windows over Mac OS, it would be a challenge to adapt to a Mac OS. Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and soon to be released 7 would also win in aesthetics too.
