Mid-Size ship for thargoid fights?

What kind of Thargoids do you want to kill? Scouts or Interceptors?
I suggest to start with Scout hunting, as it can be done with standard weapons (AX/Guardian weapons are quicker). Also, the combat style is closer to the standard NPCs. Interceptor combat takes more skills, as it is akin to a boss fight with several stages.
The ship choice depends on whether you have Guardian weapons or not. Without, you need many large hard points for AX Multi Cannons (Kraits MK IIs, Python, Federal Assault Ship). With Guardian Gauss cannons, you can also use ships with more medium hard points (FDL, Federal Gunship, Alliance Challenger).
If you can afford it, Krait Mk2 combines the best of everything: Speed, Agility, Shields, Armor, 3 Large+2 Medium hard points and a fighter hangar. As it can use a class 6 shield, it has good recharge rates with Biweave, in case your shields drop.
Edit: in case you want to hunt Interceptors, the following of the above ships are not a good choice, due to their lack of a free hard point for the remote release FLAK launcher: FAS, Challenger

Check out the link below before hunting goids. Our squad used this as a guide and have been very successful. Enough to be closing in on 5th place after starting mid season. Some things have changed, but we are not sure if that is in error. The number of swarms for instance is not correct anymore. Most of the info is spot on though. There are links to several ship builds along with strategies to fight Interceptors.
