Well, i took the plunge and bought the Python. It meant selling the Eleanor Rose (my Type-7) and I was shocked at how that hurt. I loved that damn ship.
I also had to sell my Vulture. I took inordinate glee in selling it piece by damn piece. I understand it's a fancy ship and all, but >.< I hate it. Sorry. I do.
Now I have 'Sir Hiss' my Python. And what a boat. The whole mid-game just opened itself up to me: I'm buying upgrades again as I earn the money for them and I'm looking into engineering the ship. What a fantastic ship!
