Might know why framerate is so crap.

Yeah there's something wrong with the way textures and stuff load that result in poor performance and permanent low LOD quality for people with relatively low vram (I think?). It isn't related to disk usage though, as I have exactly the same result even after switching to a SSD.

Interestingly since the last update im getting around 40fps on planet surfaces at 1440p with a rx480, in space now getting upto110 fps.
This is up from when it launched. Station concourses are still awful at around 20-25 fps.
Im playing at high settings 1.0 supersampling. CPU is an I7920 from 2008

My PC is working great. 60fps 1080p everywhere, in stations, on planets etc. Everything in Ultra and using an Nvidia 2070.
Yeah Elite loves Nvidias--hates AMDs.
I'm about to swap my 6900 XT out for my wife's (my old) 2080TI, just to play Elite normally. Nobody seems to have problems with the 2060s and 2070s.

I’m seeing this stated as fact applicable to the released version of Odyssey over and over, but not any solid evidence for this. Not saying it’s not true, but it looks like an assumption or unproven theory is being reported as fact.

I’m aware of the video reference in this thread, but that was in reference to the alpha. Is there actually any evidence relating to the released build?
Deductive reasoning based on the fact frame rates and gpu utilization stats aren't changed when compared to Alpha. If optimization was done, even a little bit you would expect to have better frame rates and lower utilization numbers because the game would be using the GPUs more efficiently. This is why every patch people are asking "Are the frame rates better" because at some point Fdev will do the optimization pass and BOOM, the stats will just be better.

Nope. Not sure what that has to do with anything.
Your forum name has -VR- in it, hence I was wondering when you referred to 1080p whether you weren't playing VR for a reason. But I guess the VR in your forum name is just a random couple of letters, so never mind...

Performance in VR is crap. ;)

Yep, lost around 30% performance in vr compared to Horizon using a Ryzen 5800x and a rtx3080. That and the fact that looking at the ship UI and at planet terrains hurts my eyes since there are some ui/terrain elements that are not correctly rendered in 3D and in both eyes. Definetely ready for release!

I'm running a pretty old laptop with very low settings. Occasionally there are massive holes in the parking bay, which I can walk over while looking down at a lower level of the station - there are cables, doors and basic decor visible. I thought this was a little strange, that's something that should be hidden would have detail - much less than the bits that were supposed to be there, but way more than would be necessary if the floor had actually rendered.

Not sure if this is evidence of anything, but does match the descriptions given of what shouldn't be there.

Just so you guys know. Uninstalled Horizons oddly by getting rid of the CQC crap. Freed up a lot of disc space. Glad of that because LiDAR is a hog. Still runs like crap. Maybe Horizons is necessary for cool looking planets? I went to Sol to check out the "Europa" style planets. Jupiter was a blue grid. Europa was a blue mess. I havent been there in at least 4 years.

Yeah, haven't been playing in VR lately. And I won't play in VR until the legs part is properly supported in VR too.
