Military Asp

As I've been pootling around the cosmos in my lovely AspX, I got to wondering would we ever see in game the Military version of the ship as in previous incarnations of Elite.

I presume such a ship would have a greater jump range than other medium fighters maybe? Being military maybe it's got some guardian/hybrid tech going on. What do folks think - is there need for such a ship in game?

P.s. before its suggested; Asp scout no thankyou.

No. The Asp is called Explorer for a reason IMO. A mil spec / dedicated military Asp would have a poorer range but be much tougher for the simple reason is a giant chubby target. Maybe add on two smalls, reduce its jump potential by 20% and up its armour / shield rating- in essence craft a ship that sits below a Fed Gunship / Challenger.

I wouls love to see one. I like to fly my aspX as a militery one just any way.

When i heard about the asp scout before it was in game i thought it would be that asp. But that is not what we got lol. Too fat, too slow, small fire power..

If it had 4 mediums instead and was much flatter with 4 utility slots still and could go as fast as the Aspx things could have been much more interesting..

You mean the old Asp mk2? Gone the way of the Krait lightspeeder and Cobra mk1 that one. I'd like to see a couple of the old ships in the new game, but 100-200 years on some are going to be obsolete.

Personally it makes sense that some ships are discontinued and no one uses them ones due to other ships surpassing their capabilities.

Doesn't have to just be the Asp, but do like the idea of military ships and modules. A modest improvement in stats for a significant increase in cost would soak up a few of the excess credits floating around. Plus they could look cool.

Harking back to the days of Elite on the Spectrum, an Asp Explorer was a formidable opponent. It was fast, nimble and had a low frontal area which made it harder to hit with fixed weaponry. I look at my lovable AspX now and see a very different ship, like an old, old dog that likes to sit in front of the fire with me while I read a good book.

I would love to see an Asp RS. Stripped down, streamlined (goodness me that cockpit is an abomination), and rammed with a big thrusters.

Oh my. Sounds wonderful. Yep I think I would buy a fleet of same! I always thought asp military ship was akin to a really sleek skimming stone.

Military Asp? There's an oxymoron if ever I heard one.
True, but of all the smaller ships, she looks like a military vessel. I quite like the AspX; it was my first combat vessel. I'm aware of her limitations and don't use her these days but have a soft spot for the beast. She just looks great - an angular little chunk of nasty. :)
Once I get back to the bubble I'll Engineer the daylights out of mine and REZ with it for fun. :)

My Asp X's have been sitting, gathering dust for years.

The first one - I just couldn't do exploration back then. There was too much nothing to do, so I wound up turning it into a mining ship.
The other one... I rigged it as an experiment and made it a railgun platform. It's great for target practicing, and I've gotten pretty good at hitting what I'm pointing at, but outside of that, it's just been sitting as well.

As combat ships, I've never been particularly impressed with the Asp. As mining ships, I've not been terribly impressed either. Overall, it's just not a terribly impressive ship, but it's a good stepping stone to a much better ship.
