Military outpost economy influence

I just wanted to confirm something. I’ve been told that a military outpost, although being military, does not influence the system’s economy to lean military. This is because it’s an outpost, unlike a relay station or a security hub, which does add, because it’s an installation.

However, the colonization spreadsheet and EDSC both list the military outpost as adding military to the economy. So which is it?

Ah so it needs to be paired with orbitals that aren’t dockable then. Except for a relay or security station, which will generate their own military links, correct?

I think at this stage we need to ask what you want from it?
If it's just a market that sells military goods. It does that by itself nothing else required.
If it's to make a different port sell military goods. It does not do that by default but can if certain conditions are met.
If it's to make your system show as having a Military economy on the galmap it will impact if that happens.

In basically all situations it does not need to be paired with anything. It's best use is when you do want a military market but do not want the other ports to have a military market.

It's actually none of those. I don't want a military economy at all, or a market for it. What I'm after is high security. Normally to do that you'd build a relay and then a security station, and presto. However that will create the military weak links that I'm trying to avoid, because they will eat the commodities of the economies i AM trying to build up.

The fact that the relay and security station has a military influence seems like a bad idea. I think those should give no links at all, and the military outpost and settlements can give military links. Most places differentiate their police force from their military, why not here? This me having to figure out how to build a military outpost in a planet that only has 1 orbital slot for +2 security so it doesn't eat mess up my commodities is really complicated and cumbersome when you're trying to increase the security levels of your systems.

I've just built a system that's tiny. It has a single refinery and a planetary port (civilian) 220km from it.
So im getting cmm and all the other juicy stuff in that category. Polymers, semi/super conductors etc etc.
I've learned not to mix n match. So l won't be building any military, high tech or industrial in this system.
It also has steel, aluminium, copper, titanium as well.
But l wanna increase security.
So how do I do so without creating weak or strong 'bad' links that would screw up the status quo?
Also can l build say Extraction or more refinerys? Would they benefit? There's a stock of about 30 to 60k of each at. So im struggling to find a reason why.

All your options are weak.
A military outpost with no older or higher tier ports on the body.
A communication station. T1 can be used to enable some stuff at other ports.
A government installation. T2

Communications and government aren't bad but they don't give a lot of security. So if you want a refinery system with high security you might need to look into the security or military installations due to slot limitations. Then you'll want to add more refinery hubs to reinforce your production and offset the weak links. You can handle a few weak links.

For my extraction/refinery system I'm laying down a T2 military settlement and plan on putting a military installation in orbit, with the intent of raising system Security to at least medium. I have lots of options for boosting the primary economies (Extraction/Refinery) once Security is up a bit.
