I like I'm sure you all have, have noticed when travelling away from a station the gap between the no fire zone of a space station and the moment you are no longer mass locked.
It would seem natural to me that the pilot's federation would demand that stations be designed so the range of its weapons are enough to protect ships under the influence of its mass.
The little "no mans zone" only seems to benefit pirates and I wouldn't have thought they had many lobbyists, at least not compared to the federation that keeps these stations supplied with all thier needs.
So I'm wondering was this gap a planned thing? Was it talked about in the forums during design?
